Teyana Taylor Calls Out Label, Explains Nicki Minaj Situation & Clarifies Retirement Statement

Dec 6, 2020, 12:36pm EST — Arguably, the entertainment world’s biggest kept secret, Teyana Taylor finally called out the machine on Saturday evening. Earlier in the weekend, T briefly sent a message, saying that she was retiring from putting out music – citing that she was under appreciated.

Unfortunately, her message wasn’t properly received; as fans were saddened by the talented Harlem native putting out a statement of that magnitude. This led to her actually going on IG live for the first/only time ever to explain her situation and issues with that major label. She blamed them for her career not going the way as planned; including not having her music properly distributed.

Teyana saw praise from 2018’s KTSE album, which many said was a botched roll-out by label heads. However, after releasing her The Album, which was her best work to date; she reached a breaking point. Considering she directed her own music videos, choreography and saved them money; TT felt she was unappreciated by the label (not her fans). Teyana went to say she gave that project 110 percent to the machine and only receiving back 10.

Following the birth of her 2nd child earlier this fall, she had an epiphany on where she wanted be in life as a grown woman. With that being said, Teyana stated she wants to graduate to acting, model, directing; and guiding younger artists so they don’t have the same problems she had to go through with this crazy business. It’s to the point, that TT’s already moved on from her own music career, mentally, given the years she’s put in.

She no longer wants to be bitter and unhappy about the situation; which is why she wants to create with newcomers. The initial message wasn’t about awards; but more so about how she’s treated with not getting proper production from the biggest in the game. Shockingly, Teyana said she’s handed beat CDs, where she has to pick from.

Considering, the quality of content she’s been able to deliver, we’re not shocked at how she feels. That’s with someone else holding the keys to her career and preventing larger bags she would’ve got to as a music artist. From our examination, she’s due every and anything she would ask for.

This is an artist that has never been in legal trouble, a married parent of two; and someone that actually loves/d want they did. She also respects those that came before her, and always played her position.

Take a look at her statements below.

Teyana’s famous friends have shared their support following her announcement. Cardi B declared Teyana’s The Album the best album of 2020, while The Game celebrated her “underdog” status and encouraged her to keep going.

“Live in your glory & never be detoured by the minds of those weakened by this watered down era of appreciation,” he wrote. “YOUR GIFT IS SO APPRECIATED & as your big bro I want you to know, you are truly one of the best artist/people inside & outside of music I’ve ever known. NEVER TIP THE CROWN QUEEN.”
