Introducing “cross-generational play.”
Late last month fans were given more insight regarding Sony‘s upcoming PlayStation 5 gaming console.
And now Jim Ryan, CEO of PlayStation, has revealed more news regarding PS5’s highly-anticipated release, reports Tech Spot. According to Ryan, PS5 will support backward compatibility with PS4 games along with “cross-generational play.” This means gamers will be able to play a compatible game on their PS4 and then switch over to PS5 to save their progress. Of course the gamer can then switch back over to PS4 to continue playing.
The PS5 will also include support for 8K output and even real-time ray tracing capabilities, along with 4K/120Hz games to attract PC players who are looking for high frame rates.
In terms of hardware, the PS5 will house an 8-core Ryzen chip running on AMD’s 7nm Zen 2 microarchitecture, as well as a Navi GPU. It will also have a built-in solid state drive (SSD) to prevent players from waiting to long for a game to load.
