Rosa Nice Celebrates 50 years of HipHop with Recording Academy Members in Queensbridge Park

Voting, Professional & Student Recording Academy members joined together to give back during their annual The Day That Music Cares in Queens, NY. On Friday July 28th, 2022, Rosa Nice joined over 20 voting, professional, and Student Recording Academy members alongside the City Parks Foundation to beautify and weed Queensbridge Park.

Sitting directly across from one of the largest public housing developments in North America, Rosa Nice, and her fellow volunteers, learned a brief history of the area known to many as Queensbridge,” “The Bridge,” or “QB.” While DJ Kool Herc of the Bronx is credited with founding HipHop, The Bridge is well known for the numerous HipHop legends who grew up there. What do DJ Marley Marl, Mc Shan, Roxanne Shante, Nas, Big Daddy Kane, and Biz Markee all have in common? You guessed correctly! They all come from The Bridge.

When asked about how it felt to participate in The Day Music Cares, Rosa Nice said, “it is a great honor to be standing steps away from where some of the greatest legends of HipHop created their sound and influenced the history of music forever. I am so grateful for the opportunity to learn about the rich history of the area and give back to the same community that has given musicians, and fans, across the world hope, inspiration, and faith in a better tomorrow. I am a musician who enjoys mixing genres to create new sounds. HipHop created the movement which allows me to do that. Today is a day I’ll never forget.” Rosa Nice was accepted into the Recording Academy as a student member in August of 2022 through the GrammyU program.

Since joining, Rosa quickly became a Tulane University Campus ambassador where she has been mentored by voting members of the Academy, she has used her platform to advocate for laws protecting musicians, and she has volunteered with the New York Chapter celebrating the history of HipHop on its 50th anniversary.
