The city of Memphis is known for its great contribution to the music world. From hip hop to jazz and everything in between; Memphis has become a breeding ground for musical talent. Recently a new artist has emerged with a style that sticks out from the competition. His name is Rockard DaRageWay and he is changing the game for artists everywhere.
Originally from Midtown Memphis, Young Rockard grew up in one of the toughest areas in South Memphis. Rockard’s family would eventually move to Whitehaven, then to East Memphis. According to Rockard, “I was originally raised by grandmother, she acquired custody of me while my mother was in the streets. When I was three, my grandmother gave custody to my mother, who was recovering from drugs and alcohol. I was the youngest.”
Rockard would have to endure trials and tribulations, raised by a single black mother struggling from drug addiction and alcohol. “I don’t recall too many happy memories being home, I suffered from traumatic experiences as a kid. I couldn’t enjoy the life of a normal child. I couldn’t go outside to play, watch tv or play my game when I wanted to…nothing”, Rockard DaRageWay explains.
Rockard spent most of his childhood alone. In 7th grade Rockard fell in love with basketball, it was a hobby and it gave him something to do. Rockard would continue playing basketball all the way into high school. Rockard began making music while he was still in middle school. This passion took charge of Rockard and by high school he had his first single on the radio. Rockard credits his mother as a true inspiration for his music, she would only listen to classic r&b and oldies.
Fast forward, Rockard DaRageWay has created his own lane and he’s running through it! He’s currently promoting his highly anticipated single titled “Dead Inside”. This single features Rockard’s ability to truly rock out! Rockard also produces as well; he’s worked with l Zaytoven, D-Rich, Yung Lan, Lex Luger, 808 Mafia and more.
