Finnish-Congolese rapper King Yanz is back, looking to turn it up a level as a rising talent on the back of his previous release ‘No Favours’. New single ‘Dangerous’ unveils effortless R&B melodies with magnetic warmth.
The track is released ahead of an upcoming headlining set at Parallel62 in Barcelona on April 3rd and a performance at Tallinn Music Week on April 11th.
‘Dangerous’ is the second single from King Yanz’s upcoming album ‘Jeppisboy’. The track showcases a shift in Yanz’s use of melody, introducing layers and harmony alongside his rap delivery and hip-hop origins. Crisp percussion cuts deeply through a grooving bassline, and rough-edged electric guitars cut through the smoothness of his delivery.
‘Dangerous’ is a choice, being pulled in by a bad decision, knowing it may cost you. That cheeky, seductive energy oozes to the fore. Once again, Yanz carries this closely, with subtlety and charisma.
Discussing ‘Dangerous’, producers Jason Boshoff (Ed Sheeran, Josh Groban, David Gray, Rufus Wainwright) and Oscar Garcia Bragado explain:
“Infectious hooks and a beat that won’t quit. Dangerous is a breath of fresh air that insists you take a moment to enjoy yourself, probably dancing, but definitely smiling.”
On the upcoming album, from which ‘Dangerous’ is taken, they say:
“Not forgetting his musical origins and certainly not forgetting the melodic infectiousness of 2000s urban pop, King Yanz sets himself apart with Jeppisboy. 808s, knocky beats, and intentional musicianship form the backdrop to a lucid dream that explores King Yanz’s origins and personal encounters. What a pleasure to have collaborated on this project.”
