Prolific R&B sensation Hakeem Romance is an artist you must be on the lookout for. The Newark, New Jerseey native — who now lives in Richmond, Virginia — just dropped “Come See About Me,” a collaboration with Atlanta producer 9Eleven Beats, after it was selected to be in a short film, but the backstory behind the track goes much further.
“A group of people were looking for R&B songs to be placed in their short film, and this song happened to be one of the ones that I picked from all my music I have out currently,” Hakeem explained. “I sent them my music links so they could let me know which one they liked, but oddly enough they went to my SoundCloud and picked that song.”
“[However], I had to remake it because I personally thought the original version was all the way trash,” he added. “Now it’s all polished up, nice and squeaky clean and ready to be shopped around.”
The track was the result of a multinational team effort spearheaded by Hakeem Romance; beatmaker 9Eleven Beats lent her incredible skill set while Birmingham, United Kingdom based vocal producer LaShana Latrice helped make the track “pop out how it should.” Hakeem also credits engineer Reginald Smith as a man who is “legitimately great” at anything he does.
What’s next for Hakeem? A music video for “Come See About Me” is in the works, and he plans on adding more and more to his burgeoning discography. But more importantly, he’s just going to keep doing him, creating and navigating the music world one track at a time.
