His latest single, “Lighta Lighta” featuring DJ Oshawn, reached No. 11 on the Canadian iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart, continuing a stretch of releases that have helped the Scarborough artist build momentum in Canada’s independent hip-hop scene.

The new milestone follows “I Do This,” which reached No. 12 on the Canadian iTunes Hip-Hop/Rap chart. His previous release “Toonies Loonies” also made an impact, climbing to No. 5 on the Canadian iTunes chart.

For GRABBZ, the numbers represent more than individual chart positions. They are the result of an independent career built using many of the same principles that first established his name as an entrepreneur.

Before pushing records, GRABBZ was building Hotgrabbz.

The Toronto-based business helped make the GRABBZ name recognizable and earned him the nickname “The Grabba Man.” Building a company from the ground up taught him how to market a product, develop an audience and invest his own resources into something he believed could grow.

When he turned his attention toward music, that mentality came with him.

Instead of separating the artist from the entrepreneur, GRABBZ has used both sides of his experience to shape his career. His music reflects the same themes that have defined much of his journey: money, ownership, ambition, discipline and finding ways to create opportunities without waiting for someone else to provide them.

That perspective can be heard throughout a catalog that has generated more than one million streams across platforms, including records such as “Nasty,” “Free Game,” “I Hustle Baby,” “Toonies Loonies” and “I Do This.”

GRABBZ also studied music engineering, giving him an understanding of the technical side of recording and production in addition to his experience as an artist and entrepreneur.

With “Lighta Lighta,” GRABBZ and DJ Oshawn bring a different energy.

The record takes the familiar act of asking someone for a light and turns it into a catchy concept centred around presence and energy. It’s a more celebratory release, built around a repeatable hook and the confidence that has become part of GRABBZ’s sound.

The No. 11 placement gives the record an early milestone while adding another Canadian iTunes chart appearance to his catalog.

More importantly, it continues a pattern.

GRABBZ isn’t building his career around one song or waiting for a single viral moment to change everything. His progression has come through multiple releases, independent investment and an audience that continues to grow alongside the music.

The transition from building Hotgrabbz to seeing his records appear on the charts also reflects a larger part of his story. Entrepreneurship gave GRABBZ his first experience with ownership. Music has given him another way to apply it.

“Hotgrabbz taught me how to build a brand, understand my audience and put my own money behind what I believe in,” GRABBZ says. “I brought that same mentality into the music. Every chart position shows that the work is connecting, but I still feel like the bigger story is just beginning.”

With “Lighta Lighta” reaching No. 11, GRABBZ has another result to add to that story as he continues expanding his music beyond Toronto and reaching new listeners.

“Lighta Lighta” featuring DJ Oshawn is available now on major streaming platforms.
