Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Sherrell Monique

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Sherrell Morris stage name is Sherrell Monique I rep Grove aka “G City” in Williamsburg Va.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest releases “Heartbreak” came about because I was cheated on several times and everytime he would do something wrong he would buy me things or think saying sorry and he love me was going to make it better or make me forget.

“Feel So Good” came about because I met someone who really showed me that I was worth more than I knew someone who didn’t disrespect me when we disagreed and he made me feel his love I didn’t have to ask myself if he loved me because he showed it and I knew it was genuine

What is unique about you and your music?

My music is very unique because it’s real life I’m not making up anything I’m talking about whether it’s about me or someone else I know its REAL which makes it very relatable to alot of people. About me, I write my own lyrics I can make a song about anything and I am versatile with my music If I had to choose a genre it would be r&b but I can do other genres as well

Different Life Situations is what shaped my music

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

8 years ago I realized I was going to do music because I put out my first single “SideLine” and the reactions I got from it let me know I Can Do This and I can definitely get peoples attention my fan base was crazy after I made that song

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of different types of music rap trap hip hop pop country but my favorite is 80s
Oldies and 90s R&B

What inspires you to write music?

I love music so I can’t say only One thing that inspires me to write because EVERYTHING inspires me. My children, mom, siblings, I can see something on tv, be in a grocery store, other peoples situations, but my grandmother has a HUGE part of what inspires me she always wanted to see me make it as a singer songwriter she was a very big supporter she even had a part in my video “SideLine” she passed in 2018 so I really took my music very serious and I have been doing beyond great

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I’m a Licensed Mixologist so in between music I bartend but I’m a mother also and I’m very passionate about my family time

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is Being alive because life isn’t perfect and it’s short and as long as I’m alive I’m going to live and enjoy every moment of it even through bad times prayer changes things

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish I was told to BELIEVE IN MYSELF even when no one else does and INVEST IN YOURSELF nothing comes free or just handed to you. And that family support is good to have but it’s not needed to get where you need to be its MINDSET
