Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Gabe Griffin

Gabe Griffin: Food for Thought in Preparation for Two New Singles - Nature and Philosophy

What is your name and what city do you rep?

Gabe Griffin – Anaheim, California

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My Two New Singles – Nature and Philosophy, are set to be released on all streaming platforms April 16th! Nature takes on a more natural flow to rap music; with enthusiastic punch lines and a fast pace tempo, Nature represents my style of rhyming and how I want to present myself in the industry. As for Philosophy, I bring together different melodies and harmonic elements of singing/rapping to emphasize more of the production side of my craft! Overall, both releases will help continue to shape my identity as an artist and push new and existing fans to recognize the unique styles of my art.

What is unique about you and your music?

What makes my music unique is that I try to create a piece of art that is not mainstream to popular songs in today’s world. While it may sound inane, it brings together the idea that my art is my art! Of course, there will be certain elements that can be recognized from influences in my life, but I won’t beat myself up comparing my work to a popular song. I am not striving to make a radio hit, I am striving to make music that I will be proud of, and that’s what I believe makes it unique!

What shaped your music?

I believe my music engages with individuals who enjoy clean, and reputable music. The songs bring forth positive, meaningful imagery for listeners that may appeal to anyone. An approach like this shapes my music to a specific mold, because I care about everyone, not just a particular group of people I want to impress

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

During my High School years, I dabbled in music production and enjoyed the aspect of combining different elements of sounds and harmonies to create a song. I also spend a lot of my downtime writing poetry to help me work on telling a story inside of a short poem. After graduating college, I decided it was a passion of mine and wanted to take a more professional approach towards pursuing a dream! After all, if you’re gonna do something, do it right!

What type of music do you listen to?

This answer may sound strange, but I actually don’t listen to a lot of music! I’d say my catalog of songs I listen to consists of orchestral ballads, type beats, and 1930s show tunes! I’m always open to listening to new music from different artists, but I tend to stay shallow in my music collection!

What inspires you to write music?

All honesty, I just enjoy writing! Nothing specific inspires me to write, just whatever I’m feeling at the moment! If you listen to a song of mine that has upbeat energy and happy lyrics, that was my mood during the writing / production portion.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

When I’m not making music, I tend to enjoy going to the beach, going on hikes, working out, and just being around friends and family! I’m a pretty simple individual who enjoys life and just wants to be happy, nothing crazy!

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is knowing someone is getting through a difficult day by listening to my music! I care for others and that is one of my objectives as I pursue my career in the industry

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish I was told at an earlier start of my career that music is subjective! I know it’s not a good feeling when you put your heart and soul into a song and it doesn’t get the love and support you feel it deserves; but that does not mean it’s a bad song! There are over 7 billion people in this world and I guarantee there is a group of people out there you can connect with! Make a good quality song, release it, and move on to the next! That’s the only way to grow as an artist

Where do we find you music / music projects?

My music is on all major streaming platforms (i.e. Spotify, Apple Music) and I also have animated videos that overlay with my songs located on my YouTube Channel. Both YouTube and streaming services are under Gabe Griffin
