D21: The Journey of a Rising Hip-Hop Star

Born in Los Angeles and raised in Seattle, D21’s story is one of passion, persistence, and the pursuit of greatness in the world of hip-hop. He began his musical journey at the age of 15, when he was a freshman in high school, but it wasn’t until his junior year that things got serious. Encouraged by friends who saw his potential, D21 decided to pursue a career in rapping, and it has been his focus ever since. That push from his peers, combined with a growing drive, has made D21 into the artist he is today.

Inspired by the Greats

D21 credits his love for hip-hop to some of the genre’s biggest names. Jay-Z’s Blueprint album series was a significant influence, with its powerful lyrics resonating deeply with him. “His words in his lyrics were the most powerful things that resonated with me,” D21 says, explaining how Jay-Z’s messages inspired him to write his own songs and work hard every single day.

Another major influence for D21 is Travis Scott, whose energy and passion as both an artist and a person fuel D21’s motivation. “He’s the standard for me to be great and pursue my dreams,” D21 explains. Additionally, artists like Kanye West, Drake, Future, and Lil Uzi Vert have all played a role in shaping his sound. D21 doesn’t just take inspiration from their music; he also draws from their fashion sense, using their looks to influence his own style.

From the Band to the Booth

D21’s musical journey didn’t begin with rap. In middle school, he played horns like the trumpet and tuba and even dabbled in drums. But as he entered high school, his focus shifted entirely toward rap, leaving the instruments behind to pursue his dream.

D21’s music is primarily Hip Hop/Rap, but he occasionally mixes in elements of R&B, creating a sound that is both versatile and unique.

Breaking Through: Viral Hits and Big Moves

D21’s rise in the industry hasn’t been without its challenges. Describing the journey as a “whirlwind,” he reflects on the ups and downs he’s faced. “It feels like a blur,” he says. “Going through all my trials and tribulations to get to where I’m at today makes me hungrier to keep going.”

His breakout moments came with the release of singles like Space Needle and Barbie. These songs resonated with his fans and helped him realize how much he means to his city. “Those songs are my personal favorites, and they put into perspective my growth,” he shares. They mark key milestones in his career and show how far he’s come despite the challenges he’s faced.

D21 is also excited about his upcoming single Pull Up featuring Atlanta artist Yung Bino, which is set to drop on all platforms next Friday. The song will be followed by a music video for another single, Different Sides (Had Enough), directed by SirFranglo, one of the best videographers in Seattle.

What’s Next for D21?

Currently, D21 is working on two mixtapes, one of which will be titled 4N3M. This project holds deep personal significance for him, as it’s dedicated to his close friends and a past relationship. He’s working hard on setting a release date and is excited to share it with the world.

In addition to his studio work, D21 has a show lined up at Phantom Club in San Diego next Friday. It’s an opportunity he’s eagerly anticipating: “I’m excited to perform in front of these amazing people in San Diego. Tickets will be announced in a few days, so pull up and show your boy some love.”

From viral hits to high-energy performances, D21 continues to rise in the ranks of the hip-hop world, driven by his passion and the influence of legends. With more music and shows on the horizon, there’s no doubt that D21 is a name we’ll be hearing more of in the future.
