The longtime collaborators are approaching the release of a resort-inspired album with guest appearances from Open Mike Eagle, Hanni El Khatib and more.
Aesop Rock and Blockhead are set to release Trouble Mountain on November 13 through Rhymesayers Entertainment. With the release now less than two weeks away, the label’s confirmed tracklist gives listeners a fuller view of the project beyond its title and initial preview.
The album contains 17 tracks, opening with “Swedish Death Cleaning” and closing with “Buffering.” Between those bookends are titles including “Church Key,” “Hound Selector,” “Mom One,” “No Interviews” and “High and Outside,” with “Trouble Trouble” placed seventh in the sequence.
The official release listing identifies four guest-bearing songs. Hanni El Khatib appears on “Coyote Summer,” Baby Dayliner joins “TM Tours,” Open Mike Eagle contributes to “One Thing,” and Cavalier and 4-IZE feature on “Eat and Grow.”
The concept draws on Poconos resort advertisements the pair remember from growing up in New York. Rhymesayers describes a fictional destination where the promise of escape gives way to questions about work, family, memory and the reasons people want to leave their everyday lives behind.
That setting also shapes the visual for “Trouble Trouble.” Animated by Justin “Coro” Kaufman, the video follows a skier whose experience at the imagined resort becomes increasingly surreal, translating the album’s premise into a narrative rather than a straightforward performance clip.
Rhymesayers identifies Trouble Mountain as Aesop Rock’s 13th studio album, reconnecting him with a producer whose history with his work stretches back to Labor Days. The November release puts that long partnership behind a new concept, while the complete record will reveal how its 17 pieces fit together.
