Tekashi remains behind bars on racketeering and weapons charges.
According to TMZ, the “FEFE” rapper is not receiving any special treatment in prison. In fact, while in federal lockup, several Crips were quick to “gangsta check” him, forcing him to be transferred to a federal facility that is regularly used to house witnesses who cooperate with the Feds.
The incident occurred at Brooklyn’s Metropolitan Detention Center on Nov. 19 after 6ix9ine was denied bail. Tekashi, an alleged member of the 9 Trey Gangsta Bloods, was confronted by inmates affiliated with the Crips upon his arrival. One inmate reportedly “G-checked” him by stepping up to him to see if he’s a real gangsta or a wannabe.
The Crip seemingly wanted to make it clear that he was in charge and Tekashi narrowly escaped a beatdown after prison staffers quickly intervened.
The rapper’s attorney, Lance Lazzaro, says 6ix9ine “was being threatened in jail. However, he was not scared nor did he request being removed. The [Bureau of Prisons], acting upon these threats, removed him to a different facility to eliminate the threat.”
Tekashi reportedly requested to be separated from the Crips and the Bloods and is now in a unit with non-gang members. On Nov. 18, he was arrested and indicted on six federal charges, including racketeering and discharging a firearm while committing a crime. He pled not guilty and his trial date has been set for Sept. 4.
Meanwhile, his album Dummy Boy was released last week and is expected to debut near the top of the Billboard 200.
