Lennon Stella unveiled a new track titled “Breakaway,” off her upcoming debut solo EP, Thursday (Oct. 18). The 19-year-old co-wrote the pop single alongside Jarryd James, Sam De Jong and Kate York.

Stella’s voice hauntingly begins the verse, “I apologize my emotions are higher/Hard to explain when you feel your world’s on fire.” The raw lyrics give the song a compelling mix of helplessness and power.

“Everything is fallin’ apart/ Slippin’ away/There’s no rewinding the things we say,” Stella continues in the chorus, accompanied by a simple drum beat. Her voice becomes distorted as synths bleed into the background.

“‘Breakaway’ was made in the trees of Nicaragua,” said Stella in a release of her new single, “And embodies exactly how I was feeling in that moment, which makes this song so special to me.”

Stella first rose to fame in 2012 as part of the country-pop music duo Lennon & Maisy, and she and her sister’s viral YouTube channel led her to nabbing the role of Maddie Conrad in the TV musical drama Nashville. In early 2018, she signed her first solo deal with RECORDS and Columbia Records.

To promote her debut, Stella is headlining four shows in Nashville, Los Angeles and New York later this year — each of which has already been sold out.
