SoCal Rapper JMaTy Dives Deep on Smooth, Honest New Single “Little Bro”

Many great artists claim to “bear their soul” in their music, and amongst the most talented candid musicians out there is JMaTy, who is fresh off the release of his latest single “Little Bro.”  The Thousand Oaks, California native remains true to himself and deals with real life experiences in a way only he can, which makes for a pleasant listening experience reminiscent of this generation’s best MCs.

Standard operating procedure for JMaTy involves only releasing content that resonates with something going on in his life; in other words, a topic that is better expressed through music than word of mouth.

To boot, “Little Bro” contains several perspective switches, à la “4 Your Eyez Only” by J. Cole, “Under Pressure” by Logic or “Sing About Me, I’m Dying of Thirst” by Kendrick Lamar.

“The first verse of the song is from my perspective, talking about how I am unsure of my future but still strive for my dreams as a musician, and the second verse switches to a third person perspective of my older brother,” JMaTy said.  “This is where the song hits home for me, because I mention how even though my brother seems so perfect in academics, sports and relationships, that did not mean he felt free.”

“The last section of the song is from his perspective and talks about a time where he came to one of my shows in San Diego and how he admitted that he looks up to me now in many ways despite it being the other way around for so long growing up,” he added.

This honesty is a key tenet of JMaTy’s upcoming album Windows, which is set to be his most personal work yet.  While he would not divulge a release date for his next project, he did confirm that he is working on video content and booking shows, which is exactly what we need: more honest, groovy rap by a hardworking MC looking to make his mark on the world.
