Roy Rutto Celebrates 1-Year Anniversary of “Afro Johnny Bravo” EP

A year is a long time. A lot can happen in 365 days, and for Roy Rutto, that is exactly the case.

Somehow, he’s already celebrating the one-year anniversary of his label debut EP Afro Johnny Bravo, a sonic journey combining Roy’s lore with that of the popular cartoon character featured in his project’s title.

The lore goes something like this: Previously, Roy was working on another EP, this one titled Skinny Luke Cage, which was a nickname he gave himself after shaving his head in 2021. So it was only right when after his afro grew back that the idea of using another legendary character as the basis for an EP popped back into his head.

“Months pass, my afro grows back and after a wild night out in Phoenix, ‘Afro Johnny Bravo’ is born,” Roy said. “This character of ‘Afro Johnny Bravo’ in my release is a charismatic guy with contagious confidence and hidden insecurities who is slowly but surely figuring out how to love himself, find his own identity and struggle with the highest highs and lowest lows of a hopeless romantic.”

“All this while juggling how to be a better son, a better man and a better artist regardless of the circumstances,” he elaborated.

Roy’s grind and authenticity paid off in the form of a deal with Old Soul Music, an independent label. He isn’t stopping with the cartoon-influenced releases; in fact, the artist and creative visionaire is working on a second installment of the Afro Johnny Bravo series.

It looks like Roy Rutto has found his bread and butter.
