Artist, activist, and entrepreneur Rashad D. Hawkins releases Urban Classical. Urban Classical is an eclectic record that blends classical music and different forms of urban art. The album is composed/produced by Hawkins and is his first full album. Since the start of his career, he has consistently blended different genres he enjoys.
“I am focused on making the music that I resonate with while expressing myself in sonic form,” said Hawkins. “I could care less what’s hot or in. I like what I like and work to make that.” Hawkins creatively crafts his songs by blending childhood inspirations with his sound and rhythm, spontaneously welding together different elements of hip-hop, pop, world, and classical music in his intricate writing and production style.
Aside from music, Hawkins is a community organizer with many projects and initiatives. In 2015, he started his organization BMore Awesome Inc (BMAi). Under his leadership, BMAi has hosted events and performances, built partnerships with several organizations, co-planned two national conferences, and co-organized the first-ever Mayoral Forum on Arts and Culture in Baltimore City. BMAi co-created the first ever school police policy in Baltimore City and co-created and supported HB 78: Maryland Commission on Health Equity (The Shirley Nathan-Pulliam Health Equity Act of 2021).
Urban Classical is the first of many projects from Rashad. “I am working on my first official studio album, with vocals, not just instrumentals. I plan on seriously making music and art for people that resonate with it over at least the next ten years” Hawkins said.
