There’s fly, and then there’s Randy McPhly. Hailing from East Palo Alto, California, Randy is a shining star in regards to his musical output, infusing real-life tales with incredible instrumentation and production to create truly unique songs you won’t hear anywhere else.
Randy’s most recent release, an EP titled JDM 2, is a great starting point for those looking to get into the MC, as it chronicles his “rise from the ashes.”
“[I am] tapping into the universal experience of struggling through the daily grind, bridging the gap between where you are now and where you want to be,” Randy McPhly said.
By relaying his true feelings on the mic for all to hear and digest, Randy hopes that listeners can also find the enlightenment they are looking for through his music.
“[I] hope my listeners [who are] navigating life struggles will feel seen, understood and inspired to take back control of their life by leaning into self-love,” he said.
By using rap to process the everyday events of his life, Randy not only creates a therapeutic space for himself, but for listeners going through similar experiences. Outreach is in his plans for the future; the NorCal native recently relocated to South Central Los Angeles to create music that “helps others cope with loss and feel seen on their path to self growth.”
Additionally, Randy has got live performances and music videos lined up for the near future following the release of JDM 2. If his resume and mission weren’t already impressive enough, he’s also a Mellon Arts fellow at Stanford University, using his talents to produce and release another project.
He’s prolific, he’s dedicated and he has a great message: Randy McPhly isn’t just a must-add to your playlist, he’s a must-add to your overall life experience.
