Ramone’s Good to Gr8 Album seems to be an excellent use case on what Dancehall will need to do for attaining Global status again on the music scene. As Afrobeats has taken over and some dispute the differences of both, he has seemingly blended the 2 with his debut release for his Debut album with the Fusion Hit “Not Today.” The subtle tones produced by Jamaican Oceanic “Oshi” Whoop adds to the symphonic sound that spells a possible instant classic for the artist. The song was initially called Fela Kuti to represent the unity the Icon of Africa.
The new album features songs from Tory Lanez, Beenie Man, Uncle Murda and more. Ramone was asked what’s his process to enter into the Dancehall Genre Full time and he touches on his Jamaican Roots and credits opening for Beenie Man on tour for sparking the Flame. While Tory has been sentenced it is quite possible this Canadian Caribbean Artist fittingly has a right of passage for filling that need. Being interviewed by Jazmine Summers of IHeart Media he seems ready for the mantle.
Ramone Says, “One of the largest blessings in life was flying out to the UK to work with the King of Dancehall and getting that Co-sign. 60,000 people singing your music live is a powerful feeling and I wish to master my craft more to carry on the legacy. People say Reggae is out and Dancehall is dead, I say it’s Global music and you see the residue everywhere. Check the UK and Canadian slang, Our footprint is universal even with the biggest artist in the world from my hometown you here it in his tunes. I am happy to show the world what Reggae means again. I’m happy and grateful to be show my culture.”
Good 2 Gr8 is a culmination of Ramone bubbling in the Toronto scene for almost a decade. While having some prominent features on industry platforms such as BET, WSHH, ThisIs50, and his native 6’s Flow 98.7 FM… This is according to him his biggest stage of all, The Global one. As an independent artist he’s collaborated with some huge talent and the sounds have resonated across many. The Album Good 2 Gr8 dropping on August 18, maybe a forecast more than a title. The Audience is now listening.
