Canadian-American rapper and songwriter Dead Hendrix, also known as Hendi, delivers a brand new sound with his latest single, “Till We Die.” The new track is reminiscent of a mix of artists, including American rapper and singer-songwriter Sueco, based out of LA, and Destroy Lonely, out of Atlanta, but with something only Dead Hendrix can bring to the track. While all of Dead Hendrix’s music is layered with lyrical symbolism, “Till We Die” is about the feeling, the sound, and the vibe. By focusing on the sonic experience and the emotional impact of the music, this song creates a unique vibe that sets it apart from typical hip-hop tracks, highlighting Dead Hendrix’s experimental and evocative style.
“I think one of the things that makes me different from other artists I know is that I got into music just through writing,” shared Dead Hendrix. “Other artists I know got into it because they were into all-around music – singing, instruments – I got into it through writing.”
Having written music for the past ten years, Dead Hendrix continues to evolve his sound with his latest single. Produced primarily by KGJA, an artist from his hometown of Ottawa, with collaborative input from Dead Hendrix, the beat reflects the innovative spirit of Opium Records, which inspired the sound of this track and others. Released on April 24th, the single continues to attract significant attention, garnering thousands of hits daily. Although there is no music video, there are considerations for a performance or lyric video.
“The reason why I chose to release this one is because I think it’s one of my best-sounding songs to date. My voice, the melody, the mix – musically, sonically – it’s all really good and really well made,” said Dead Hendrix.
Dead Hendrix’s current musical style falls squarely into the punk rap genre, with some tracks leaning more towards emo and others towards punk rap. “Till We Die” is one of his more emo-sounding songs, but it maintains a dynamic bounce that keeps it engaging. The release of this track was particularly challenging for Dead Hendrix, as he was in the hospital leading up to it, making the rollout difficult. Despite these obstacles, the single continues to receive a warm reception from his fans.
“I’m glad my fans like this one and keep listening to my music. It was rough to push this one out while in the hospital, so I appreciate the love,” enthused Dead Hendrix.
Dead Hendrix has a performance on June 29th in Ottawa and is planning a few more shows in Toronto. In addition to this independent single, he is also planning a mixtape, set to be released in the coming months. This mixtape will feature exciting collaborations, including work with artist Nell, whose music Dead Hendrix highly admires, and Levi Zadoff, with whom he previously collaborated on the EP “Dead Summer.” Fans can look forward to more innovative tracks from these partnerships, potentially in the form of an EP or a mixtape.
Originating from Ottawa, Ontario, Gavin Kratt, better recognized as Dead Hendrix, has been leaving his imprint on the rap scene since 2020. Influenced by artists like Hopsin, Kevin Gates, Machine Gun Kelly, Lil Wayne, and Eminem, Dead Hendrix found refuge in music, channeling his tumultuous childhood into poignant lyrics. Overcoming battles with mental illness and addiction, Dead Hendrix’s resilience shines in hits like “Mustang” in collaboration with Yungcudii and the 2022 EP mentioned above, “Dead Summer,” marking his evolution as a dynamic force in hip-hop. While he started his musical journey in middle school, Dead Hendrix’s first professional track came out around his junior year of high school.
“Everyone has some type of addiction, but it can be bad when it’s drug and alcohol, especially if there’s mental illness involved,” continued Dead Hendrix, “I don’t know all the answers, but I do know life is so much better without them and sometimes you don’t know that until you hit rock bottom.”
Despite his personal struggles, Dead Hendrix’s resilience and authenticity shine through in his music, where he candidly talks about drug abuse, heartbreak, and trauma, underscoring his commitment to personal healing and musical growth. As he continues to carve his career path, Dead Hendrix remains a compelling voice, offering listeners a glimpse into his world with honesty and vulnerability.
