"New Jack City" Reboot Reportedly In The Works

According to Deadline reports Snowfall‘s Malcolm M. Mays, has signed on to lead the way for a New Jack City reboot with Warner Bros. However, there is no director currently attached to the alleged project.

The original film which released nearly three decades ago grossed eight times its $8 million budget. The Mario Van Peebles directed New Jack City featured some notable actors such as Wesley Snipes, Ice-T, and Chris Rock. New Jack City depicted the early days of the ’80s crack era and it will be interesting to see how Mays chooses to update the script/concept.

The movie has been highly influential in Hip Hop, namely the Cash Money Records Cash Money Billionaires crew logo that was similar to the Cash Money Brothers’ one in the film. Also, Lil Wayne’s Tha Carter album series has a direct connection to Brown’s fictitious real estate operation.

Neither Warner Bros. or Mays has commented on the validity of the report. More details will be reported as they become available.
