MOTIONZ: A Melodic Fusion of Nostalgia and Innovation

Exploring the R&B Journey with Motionz.

In a candid conversation with the dynamic R&B duo, MOTIONZ, we unravel their journey through music, inspirations, and the unique essence they bring to the industry. Shantè and Shay, the voices behind MOTIONZ, open up about their name, style, influences, and what makes their musical partnership magical.

Q: What does the name Motionz mean to you and how did you guys come up with it?

Motionz: MOTIONZ, signifies a melodic kaleidoscope of emotions. It encapsulates different wavelengths and vibes that one experiences throughout the day. As we put it, the name emerged spontaneously – a raw expression of our musical identity.

Q: How did the journey into music first begin?

Motionz:  Our musical journey trace back to our childhood. At the age of 7-8, our grandmother took us to the mall where we’d spontaneously sing Alicia Keys’ “Fallin'”. Encouraging feedback from strangers led us to embrace our vocal talents. The journey continued with talent shows and grandma-guided performances. Middle school marked the turning point when we formed the group ES3. After pursuing higher education, we rebranded as MOTIONZ, committing fully to our musical passion.

Q: Describe each of your styles in one word.

Motionz: Shantè’s style can be summed up as “Chill, laidback, creative,” while Shay’s is “Chill, laidback, cute.” Both personalities are similar, and if there’s one word that unifies us, it’s “silly.”

Q: How did your first show experience impact you?

Motionz:  On our debut performance it was a proud yet nerve-wracking moment. Despite our early teenage years, the stage felt like a natural home. The experience bolstered our confidence, solidifying our commitment to music.

Q: Tell us about your childhood inspirations.

Motionz: Growing up in various parts of Georgia, our childhood was an amalgamation of dance, music, and creativity. We spent hours on YouTube, dancing, singing, and even mastering Beyoncé’s Experience Tour choreography. A deep connection with music permeated our childhood activities.

Q: Which R&B artists have inspired you?

Motionz: The list of influences is extensive, ranging from Beyoncé and Xscape to Chris Brown, Aaliyah, and many more. Their artistic journey is a blend of iconic R&B greats.
