In an era where trends move at lightning speed, $cholar The 3rd is a rapper from Montreal, Canada, who’s managed to carve out a niche and build a devoted following from Lagos to his hometown. With his infectious hit single “Head & Shoulders” sparking a dance challenge that’s sweeping the continent, this versatile artist is one to watch.
Growing up watching BET, 106 & Park, and MuchMusic, $cholar was captivated by the early 2000s hip-hop scene. Artists like Lil’ Bow Wow, 50 Cent, and Soulja Boy inspired him. “Seeing how they pulled the crowd, started trends with their style and connected with fans felt surreal,” he recalls. “Part of me wanted to be a part of that.”
sets $cholar apart is his adaptability. He’s not confined to a single sub-genre. “My music isn’t just trap music and redundant with the same beat and flow over & over like some of these artists out here,” he asserts. “If I want I can expand into reggae, pull up with an R&B trap feel. And then bounce back to some UK drill. Really depends how I feel, whatever the beat sounds like I just ride it out.”
His lyrics showcase his creativity. One of his favorites? “All I see is W’s need to get my prescription checked.” With his unique style and catchy hooks, it’s no surprise “Head & Shoulders” is taking off. The dance challenge has fans from Africa and beyond showing off their moves.
The future looks bright for $cholar The 3rd. He’s got a vault full of unreleased tracks destined for his debut album. But for now, he’s laser-focused on pushing “Head & Shoulders” to new heights. With his sights set on winning music awards, this Montreal MC is a name you’ll be hearing a lot more of.
