Launching at the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh.
After 1017 ALYX 9SM’s Matthew M. Williams shared official imagery of his second Nike collaboration recently, the technical Free TR 3 SP capsule now has a confirmed release date. The collection features two silhouettes — a women’s sneaker based on the Free TR Flyknit 3 and a menswear sneaker adapted from the Free Train 3 — as well as detachable crampons created in partnership with Vibram.
The adapted Free Train 3 features lacing inspired by track spikes along with a medial zipper on the collar, and is set to release in either black or white. For the reworked Free TR Flyknit 3 Williams has added molded overlays to the upper and references Nike’s Elite High Quarter Sock with its sock-like construction. Both of these sneakers can then be customized through the use of the detachable crampon, which comes in white, black or red.
Announcing the collection, Williams explained that “this shoe embodies the multi-functionality of our modern urban existence. We are proud to have collaborated with Vibram on the detachable crampon rubber sole, which allows for the shoe to be used as a minimal trainer inside of a gym or as a resilient boot on city streets or park trails.”
The Matthew M. Williams x Nike Free TR 3 SP capsule will release on June 8 at the NikeLab Chicago Re-Creation Center c/o Virgil Abloh. The collaboration will then get a global release via the Nike web store and select stockists on June 27.
