Lexxi Meshan Takes Over The Summer With New Single “Rocky”

Lexxi Meshan Discusses Inspiration Behind Latest Release & More in Exclusive Interview

Hey Lexxi! Congrats on the release! What does it feel like seeing “ROCKY” already catching fire right after the official drop?

“It feels amazing! I have been getting a lot of positive feedback, there’s a lot of DJs has been spinning my song on the radio and in the clubs and overall I’m just overwhelmed with all the love!”

What was the first moment you knew you were destined for this life?

“I feel like I knew I was destined for this life at a very young age, because from as far back as I can remember, I just remember my mom always playing music in the house. I can remember being a little girl and always trying to sing. By my 5th birthday, my mom bought me an entire stage set.”

How would you describe the energy of “ROCKY” in one sentence?

“A powerful reminder of who not to play with.”

What inspired the title—why “ROCKY”? Is there a deeper meaning behind the name?

“The name Rocky was based off the Sylvester Stallone movie. Rocky had hands, and was very good at using them. Al Pacino from Scarface, on the other hand, had a “little friend” that you could say hello to if you got beside yourself. When it comes to playing with me, I can relate to both movies.”

What personal experience sparked the writing of this record?

“This entire song is a true story. Lyrically the verses are telling that story. I don’t live this life anymore but I do reminisce on it sometimes.”

How did your city shape the way you tell your story in your music?

“Being from two of the most prominent hip-hop cities is one of the coolest blessings I have. Being a native born New Yorker, meaning I’m born in the same state that hip-hop was born in, Is some thing that nobody can ever take for me. Then, being raised in the Atlanta culture and having the best of both of those worlds really set my creative level at where it is today.”

Was there ever a point you doubted the dream, and how’d you push through?

“This is an a dream to me, this is my life. The only time I ever got a little hesitant was the years I lived in a city that, for the most part, disrespected all of their artist. But then I realized, this isn’t a “Me” problem, it’s the location. Nobody makes it from that city. Never have, never will, because of how they allow the few, terrible “hip-hop-media apples” to spoil their state. Other than that everything has been cool.”

There’s an undeniable cinematic vibe in the production—was that intentional from the start?

“With it being a true story, I think the cinematic vibe it was inevitable. It’s also a lot of the reason that I decided to make the visual the way that I did. I really wanted to paint the story of what I’ve been through but I also want to visualize it as well so people can really get the full experience.”

The beat hits hard, but the message hits harder—what do you hope listeners walk away feeling?

“It’s a powerful energetic song and I really want people to walk away from it feeling extremely confident; I want people to feel like they can conquer whatever they put their mind to and I have to fear anybody in the way.”

Did you write the song in one sitting or did it evolve over time?

“Definitely wrote this song in one sitting, and I didn’t even take that long because again, I’m telling a true story. All I had to do was explain a day I had, and make it rhyme.”

The track runs for a lean 2:21—was that tight format part of the strategy?

“I didn’t plan for it to be that short, but I didn’t take me long to explain exactly what I’ve been through.”

Which bar in “ROCKY” do you feel is the most overlooked but the most meaningful?

“‘When my homie set me up, I blacked and almost caught a case’. That is the foreshadowing of the background story. This song, is only Part one.”

If your life up to this point was a mixtape, what would it be called?

“Red Pill.”

How does “ROCKY” set the tone for the rest of 2025?

“I mean hey- I’m a cocky b**** , right? So, y’all better watch out. It’s my year!”
