LeBron James: “I Almost Cracked” During Lakers Early Season Struggles

LeBron James admits he nearly lost it during the Lakers’ rough start.

LeBron and the Los Angeles Lakers have won five of their last six games since team president Magic Johnson reportedly “admonished” head coach Luke Walton for the team’s poor play. The Lakers’ turnaround includes their current three-game winning streak, with the most recent win coming in the final seconds at home against the Atlanta Hawks.

The Lakers are now 7-6 on the year, but there’s still a lot of work to be done if this team wants to compete for an NBA title the way that LeBron has become accustomed to. James has even admitted that he “almost cracked” amid the team’s early season struggles before reminding himself it’s a marathon not a sprint.

“I haven’t changed anything outwardly, but you know me. You know how I am,” James said, according to a report by Yahoo Sports’ Chris Haynes. “I almost cracked [last week]. I had to sit back and remind myself, ‘[Expletive], you knew what you were getting yourself into.’ This process has been good for me. I just have to continue being patient.”

‪“I had to regroup and remember this is a young team,” James told Yahoo Sports. “We’re playing some good ball right now and we’re starting to build some good habits. That’s all that matters right now.”‬

The Lakers will look to notch their fourth straight victory on Wednesday night when they host the Portland Trail Blazers in a nationally televised game that will air on ESPN. Then, it’s a three-game road trip with stops in Orlando and Miami on Saturday and Sunday, followed by another ESPN game in Cleveland, Ohio on November 21.
