Layyah Drops R&B-enthused UK Rap Single ‘Passenger Side’

Hot off the heels of releasing ‘Letting Go’ earlier this year, unstoppable young talent Layyah is back as she releases her new single ‘Passenger Side’. Produced by Footsteps and featuring fellow London contemporary Scorcher, the single looks set to further Layyah’s emphatic outreach.

Fusing R&B sensuality with UK Rap edge, the ‘Passenger Side’ explores intimacy, independence, and late-night rides. Layered with booming bass and lyrical vulnerability, Layyah delivers silky, assertive verses that celebrate soft power and style, while Scorcher brings grit and emotional weight with a standout verse. Crafted for both cruising and replaying, ‘Passenger Side’ is a vibe-forward record that cements Layyah’s place in the new wave of UK voices reshaping alternative R&B and Rap.

Speaking about the single, Layyah dives in, “Passenger Side is a vibe. The concept came about while I was chilling with my friends, having a girlie chat. I heard the beat and the lyrics just came to me. We were talking about how being in control doesn’t always mean being the driver. It’s about the effortless, calm confidence we women hold when deciding to be passenger princesses, not because we can’t drive, but because we want to be driven and lead from the Passenger side.”

Adding, “I wanted a male feature on the song to bring a male perspective. I wanted someone I rated, someone the scene respected lyrically, and I wanted someone I thought the girls would appreciate! I asked Scorcher, not knowing if this would be his thing, but after he heard the track, he was locked in and he fully understood the assignment! Undirected Scorcher knew exactly what to do. His bars complemented the track effortlessly, and he killed his verse.”

Hailing from South London, Layyah Franks-Davies, creatively known as Layyah, is a defiant singer, rapper and songwriter with an innate passion for sharp lyricism, effortless flows and a commanding presence. Starting her artistic career at ELAM College, Layyah leant into her African heritage whilst producing a sound that is unmistakably from the streets of the UK. She made waves as the first female contestant to win the BBC’s The Rap Game UK in 2024 and has since gone on to release two singles and a freestyle, amassing millions of streams, views and impressions across the internet. Looking to make her mark in 2025, Layyah continues to shine with her unwavering drive, undeniable talent for grounding, and empowering message.
