From the streets of Poughkeepsie, New York to the vibrant energy of Los Angeles, LAW D. Soul is an artist who refuses to be boxed in. Known on Instagram as @Law.Almighty, he has been immersed in music for as long as he can remember, singing, freestyling, and creating moments with his brothers on the block before ever stepping foot in a studio.
Though he officially began recording in 2014, music has always been part of his DNA. His journey took a powerful turn after the tragic loss of his brother Shamaal “Smallz” Irving in 2019. What started out as a hobby quickly shifted into something more meaningful. “That moment made me realize this wasn’t just about fun anymore. I had to take it seriously,” LAW D. Soul says. “But honestly, it wasn’t until a few months ago that I really started treating it like a business.”
One thing that sets him apart is his fearless versatility. LAW D. Soul refuses to limit himself to a single genre. His catalog already spans rock, country, hip hop, R&B, and classical, with 13 albums and 7 EPs under his belt. More recently, he has been experimenting with EDM, producing beats himself and gearing up for his first EDM tape. “Whatever feels right in the moment is what I create,” he explains. “I never want to stay in one box.”
And it is not just his voice carrying the music, he is a multi-instrumentalist, playing trombone, guitar, drums, and piano, with his eyes set on learning violin next. His influences reflect his wide range, from legends like Michael Jackson, Tupac, and Eminem, to heavy hitters like J. Cole, Kendrick, and Kanye, all the way to rock icons such as System of a Down and Metallica.
Still, despite his undeniable talent, LAW D. Soul admits his path has been anything but straightforward. “If I had to describe my journey in one word, it’s procrastination,” he says honestly. “I knew I was top tier from the start, but I wasn’t moving in my light. The last year has been a major turning point, I’m working overtime now to make sure I accomplish my highest good every day.”
His most recent release, Westside Shit (July 28), blends west coast production with New York flows, directly inspired by Kendrick Lamar’s GNX. The project carries an undeniable fire, fueled by a determination to leave his mark. “Once I heard that tape, it was over. Something in me lit up and hasn’t gone out since.” The album even finds LAW D. Soul boldly calling out big names, with standout tracks like Velma and Daphne Freestyle, New Banger, and Defcon 50.
Looking ahead, he is focused on expanding his artistry beyond just music. While shooting visuals for Westside Shit and preparing his EDM release, LAW D. Soul is also stepping into entrepreneurship, having just purchased his first event space in downtown Los Angeles. “You’re gonna start seeing LAW D. Soul-sponsored events real soon,” he says with a grin.
What’s Next
For LAW D. Soul, the future is all about growth, consistency, and impact. With new visuals in the works, an upcoming EDM project that pushes him into uncharted territory, and live events set to launch in Los Angeles, he is building something that goes far beyond music. His mission is to inspire, create, and leave a legacy that cannot be ignored. As he puts it, the fire is lit and it will not go out until his mark is made.
