Journey Behind Javon James' New Album

Inspiration and Process

Javon James’ upcoming album, initially conceived as a homage to the late Kobe Bryant, evolved into something profoundly personal and therapeutic. “To be truthful, it happened by accident,” Javon explains. The original idea, ‘Next Level,’ was meant to honor his idol, but as he started therapy, the project grew into a deeply meaningful endeavor. This album represents not just a tribute but a significant personal journey.

In describing his creative process, Javon emphasizes the importance of self-belief and differentiation. “It was about separating myself from my peers, making myself marketable, and trusting my skills and art,” he says. This album is a testament to his perseverance, reflecting a time when only a handful from his city believed in his abilities.

Javon’s previous work focused on telling his brother Marquez’s story, who was tragically killed in 2019. This new album, however, marks a departure. “This is me opening up, letting the world into Krazyfoo, and killing him off once and for all,” Javon states. The project is a blend of his alter ego’s unorthodox ideas and a fresh, authentic narrative.

While no major artists influenced the album’s direction, Kendrick Lamar’s therapeutic approach to music did inspire Javon slightly. “If I would give you a name, I would say Kdot because his last album had like one percent on the idea,” he mentions. However, the primary creative force was Krazyfoo, his alter ego, working from within his mind to create something unique.

Album Content

The themes and stories in the album revolve around Javon’s journey of allowing his alter ego, Krazyfoo, to rise and then systematically killing him off. “The theme is letting my alter ego Krazyfoo rise from the dead and slowly killing him because he is a danger to society,” Javon elaborates. This album symbolizes the birth of Javon James taking full control of his life and identity.

One standout track for Javon is “Good Day” featuring Vafy. “It was long overdue to work with an artist who pushed the best out of me,” he says. This collaboration holds special meaning as it represents a significant artistic milestone for him.

Experimentation with new sounds and genres is a hallmark of this album. Javon pushed boundaries by blending pop, rock, and rap in the track “I Can’t Breathe,” creating a unique fusion that stands out. “It was me pushing the boundaries on pop, rock, and rap, putting them all together to make something special for all genres,” he explains.

Production and Collaboration

The album features several notable collaborations. “Ride for Me” with SMD Mack is one such track. Javon appreciates Mack’s talent and the fact that they could create something magical together. “It was genuinely a throwaway song for him that he just happened to send, and we made magic,” Javon recalls.

The production team behind the album includes a host of talented individuals. “Shout out to Nokan, she makes fire beats so unique and next level,” Javon praises. Kmac also contributed some excellent tracks, and the engineering was handled by Mick Boulevard, Zak Threadgill, and Vafy. “Without them being there for me, this album is not what it is,” Javon acknowledges.

Working with these collaborators was a rewarding experience for Javon. “Vafy is amazing, a big fan of his work,” he says. His long-time friend Mick, whom he met in high school, brought loyalty and skill to the project. Zak’s previous work on Javon’s best song made him a natural choice for this album. “It just made perfect sense to have him play with some tracks and put his spin on the album,” Javon explains.

Personal Reflection

Since his last release, Javon has grown as an artist by understanding the importance of timing and a proper rollout. “Not just putting anything out and understanding how crucial it is to have a real rollout,” he notes. Personal experiences, particularly the loss of his daughter and other family members, profoundly influenced his writing and recording process. “These losses helped me make a therapeutic album,” Javon reveals.

He hopes listeners will connect with the album on a personal level, understanding that time waits for no one and the importance of mental health. “I want them to see life from others’ perspectives,” he says.

Promotion and Performance

Javon is eager to promote his album through tours and performances. “Tours are something I’m really interested in doing,” he shares. For now, he plans to go with the flow, with help from his collaborator Justin. “Shout out to Justin, he got his hands all over this,” Javon appreciates.

Envisioning his live performances, Javon aims for something big and out of the box, inspired by his admiration for Michael Jackson. “I want something different, out of the box,” he says.

Fan Engagement

Javon’s message to his fans with this new release is one of hope and perseverance. “Understand that just because you are not popular enough or don’t have what others have, it doesn’t make you less of a person,” he emphasizes. He encourages fans to embrace the album’s material, symbolizing a movement toward a higher level in life.

Looking forward, Javon plans to interact with fans and possibly make appearances in cities across the country. “We shall see, never know when Javon will be in a city near you,” he hints.

Future Plans

After the album’s release, Javon’s primary focus will be on being a dad. “My son is due soon, so making life better for him and giving him a role model and an inspiration to look up to,” he shares.

In terms of music, Javon is working on another project, “The Book of Javon,” which he describes as the final installment in a trilogy. “First it was ‘Quez Story,’ now it’s ‘Next Level of Krazyfoo Therapy Session,’ then we end it with ‘The Book of Javon,'” he reveals.

Javon sees his music career heading towards superstardom. “I see superstar status. I’m a different artist, cut from a different cloth,” he declares confidently. He envisions stadium shows, hit records, and Grammy awards in his future, believing that hard work and perseverance will ensure his name is remembered. “They will remember my name,” he affirms.
