Ivy and the Poison — A Theatrical Rock Confessional

Ivy and the Poison is a genre-blurring music-theatre project written and performed by Netta Toledano. Combining emo-punk energy with alt-rock sensibility, it tells the fictional but deeply felt story of Ivy, a woman confronting the aftermath of psychological abuse. The original songs are guitar-driven, emotionally intense, and crafted to function both as standalone tracks and as part of a continuous narrative. The show’s unique format intertwines live music with spoken monologues, creating a one-woman performance that feels like both a raw punk concert and an intimate theatrical confession.

The music reflects a range of influences from My Chemical Romance and Avenged Sevenfold to Mitski, Regina Spektor, and Chappell Roan, blending gritty angst with powerful vocals and sharp lyrical storytelling. The live experience is infused with a theatrical self-awareness reminiscent of Bo Burnham, balancing humor and irony with a profound emotional core. Ivy’s journey unfolds across each song — tracing obsession, codependency, betrayal, emotional collapse, and eventual empowerment.

The project is currently being developed and performed in New York City and has reached audiences internationally in Israel. It is regularly booked at small, intimate venues across NYC, with ongoing plans to grow into larger festivals and stages. Ivy and the Poison’s music is available on Spotify, where listeners can access a full-length demo album that captures the rawness of Ivy’s emotional journey. Additional live recordings and visual content help immerse fans in the world Ivy inhabits.

With a concept album and full-length stage production in progress, the project is positioning itself for wider festival and international touring opportunities. While the narrative is fictional, Ivy’s story is deeply informed by Netta’s personal experiences, allowing the show to authentically explore difficult subjects such as trauma bonding and emotional manipulation. The project offers a fresh and compelling voice in the alt and emo-punk landscape, merging theatrical storytelling with music that is both visceral and thoughtful.
