Back for another outing, Isai Morales returns with his latest hip-hop enthused rap belter, ‘Chilaquiles’, fusing his Latino upbringing with a jazz-funk spirit, and featuring fellow contemporary Blvck Svm. Releasing five singles already this year, Morales looks to bolster himself as an ever-growing creative talent.
Starting as it means to go on, ‘Chilaquiles’ lands as a rap anthem, telling tales of being true to yourself and never backing down. An atmospheric sample sets the tone of the single, giving it sleek finesse, whilst Morales’ flow brings a masterful, authentic edge to the track. Produced by Por Vida and Mane, the record clocks in just shy of two minutes. ‘Chilaquiles’ packs an explosive punch, doubling down on Isai’s expansive creative abilities.
Discussing what led him to write the track, Morales explains, “I wrote ‘Chilaquiles’ during a time in my life where I was learning to be more present in the moment, while simultaneously remembering who I was, and who I am.”
Growing up as one of the only Latinos in the Midwest, hailing from Dayton, Ohio, Isai Morales is a rapper-songwriter who forges his creativity from his unique worldview. Focusing on themes that surround his family’s history and upbringing, Morales was a finalist in Jarritos’ JarriTODOS grant contest before going on to win the Mineragua Fizz to Jazz contest in 2023. Isai’s expansive understanding of sounds that span jazz, funk, hip-hop, and beyond, he refutes any boundaries laid down by genre and looks set to do things differently, and never look back.
