Interview With Rising Artist It’s Midnight

1. WHEN DID THE IDEA TO BE AN ARTIST/PRODUCER BEGIN?

I had no idea I wanted to be a musician until I was 18. I was listening to Lil skies’s new album “Life of a Dark Rose” and it just clicked in my brain. I was like if he can do it so can I. I was imagining myself rapping the songs in front of a huge crowd and I was like I can totally do this.

2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVOURITE PROJECT YOU’VE WORKED ON TO DATE?

All of the projects are special because they all highlighted a time in my life. Each project was a stepping stool to help me get to where I am now. I would have to say I have enjoyed making my most recent music the most because it feels like the most ME. Like I am really proud of my recent music and feel it’s a good representation of who I am as an individual.

3. CAN YOU ROUGHLY OUTLINE YOUR CREATIVE PROCESS – FROM THE BEGINNING OF AN IDEA FOR A PROJECT OR A COLLABORATION TO THE POINT OF COMPLETION?

Man it’s all over the place. Sometimes I do it the generic way where I listen to beat packs and get inspiration from the beats, I would say this is normally how it is, however sometimes a random hook or verse or rhythm pops in my head and I have to get it out as soon as possible to contain the energy and excitement. Sometimes I imagine a certain beat and try to look for something that matches it. It’s really all over the place. Something I have learned about myself is that I can’t rush or force a creative idea. It has to come to me. Sometimes I can sit in my studio for multiple hours and nothing will come to me, while other days I make 2 full songs in 30 minutes. Create when you feel inspired and don’t force yourself if it’s not working that day.

4. HOW IS THE REALITY OF BEING AN INDEPENDENT ARTIST/PRODUCER COMPARED TO YOUR EXPECTATIONS OF IT?

It’s a mind game more than anything. Every single day you have opportunities to compare yourselves to others and see other people winning before you. Then you get all down on yourself and think things aren’t working how you wish they did. But the funny thing is a couple of years ago, I was once jealous of people my size now. You just have to remember everyone has their own journey and it’s not a competition. Just try your best to enjoy the process and remember you’re in this game for the love of making music, and not for all the externals.

5. WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES AND DIFFICULTIES YOU FACE WHEN STARTING NEW PROJECTS?

Honestly none? I would say maybe building the hype up for the song is the hardest part but I also think it’s the most exciting part? Allowing your supporters to hear your next tracks and give feedback and build excitement. It’s fun.

6. WHAT DO YOU DO TO STAY CALM WHEN A PROJECT IS NOT GOING AS PLANNED?

It’s just part of the road. It’s art. Art can be changed an infinite amount of times and it’s still considered art. It’s also subjective. I could make a song and it could be my favorite in the whole world but the public could perceive it as trash. As long as you keep making music all will be fine. Some songs will be good, others will be bad.

7. DO YOU HAVE ANY INSIGHTS, TIPS, OR ADVICE FOR SOMEONE STARTING LOOKING TO START THEIR MUSIC CAREER AND LOOKING TO GET INTO THE MUSIC INDUSTRY?

Do everything you can. I have messed around with 8 different genres before finally finding my sound. Also, be prepared for rejection for multiple years haha. It takes a long time to find the right people. But someday things will align. Just stay true to yourself and treat others with respect and all will go well.

8. WHAT ARE YOU MOST PROUD OF IN YOUR CAREER SO FAR?

The connections I’ve made. I’ve met some beautiful people so far along this journey and it’s only just started. When you want something super bad, it’s awesome being able to align yourself with other individuals who have the same goal as you. It’s just all about finding genuine people. A lot of people are in this game for the wrong reason…so find the ones that are in it for the right reason.

9. WHAT DO YOU DO WHEN YOU’RE NOT WORKING?

I love riding my bike, hooping, chilling with friends and family, watching movies, reading books, and eating beautiful food.
