Interview with YTN Tee: Unveiling the Depths of "I.D.C.A (I Don't Care Anymore)"

In the realm of contemporary music, where authenticity and innovation reign supreme, emerging artists like YTN Tee are making waves with their boundary-pushing soundscapes. With his latest project, “I.D.C.A (I Don’t Care Anymore)“, YTN Tee invites listeners on a sonic journey infused with raw emotion and unapologetic expression. We had the privilege to sit down with YTN Tee to delve deeper into the inspiration behind his 7-track EP and uncover the stories that breathe life into each song.

Q1. Can you tell us what inspired your 7-track project “I.D.C.A (I Don’t Care Anymore)”?

YTN Tee: “I wanted to release a body of work with no restrictions & not too much thought over the records. I wanted to be free and make it clear from the off that the type of music I make is over a broad scale & not restricted to one style or genre.”

Q2. How would you describe the overall theme and vibe of the EP in just a few words?

YTN Tee: “I would literally describe it as ‘different’. I feel like people will come away from it feeling like they’ve heard something different, whether it’s through the production, lyrics, or style!”

Q3. With diverse production styles, which track from the project represents your favorite musical expression?

YTN Tee: “Chop Propa is one of my favorites. It’s where I go back to my heritage a bit (Nigeria) & I’m spitting some parts in pidgin & there’s some Yoruba phrases & lingo. It was a different experience in the studio for me, and I enjoyed making it.”

Q4. The theme of indifference is evident in your project. What motivated you to explore this theme in your music?

YTN Tee: “Nothing in particular, I feel like there’s just a range of emotions in the project & by the end it really feels like a journey. There’s a mixture of recent songs and some older songs so it’s a way of understanding how I was feeling at different points in my life & the kind of music I was inspired to make. I hate rules and restrictions & I like to be free when I’m making my music, that’s when I create my best work.”

5Q. How does your commitment to quality and consistency shape the sound of “I.D.C.A (I Don’t Care Anymore)”?

YTN Tee: “I try to maintain a high standard in all aspects of the song. From the recording, to the lyrics, the flows, the production & engineering, each project has its own identity & vibe so all these aspects give it a better chance of resonating with the listener. Combining this attitude with my passion for creating music it brings a fresh & authentic sound throughout the project.”

Q6. Could you share a bit about your approach to blending hard-hitting beats, melodic tunes, and thought-provoking rap in your music?

YTN Tee: “I don’t have a specific approach to be honest, I think naturally I gravitate to making those kinds of songs & experimenting with different sounds and projects, so when it all comes together it just becomes a blend of all these things organically.”

Q7. Among the 7 tracks, is there one that holds a particularly personal story or meaning for you?

YTN Tee: “I’d probably say We Even, just because it was a real genuine expression of exactly how I felt at the time. I have a few songs where the session & process of making them are still very clear in my mind & We Even is one of them for sure!”

Q8. How do you believe your music stands out within the music scene, especially being a UK-based artist?

YTN Tee: “I believe my music stands out because I stay true to myself. Everyone is different and has their own unique quirks & I take advantage of mine. My style, my voice, my experiences, the way I say things & structure my bars or melodies – it’s all very ‘me’ & I believe it shows in my music.”

Q9. Were there any specific challenges you faced during the creation of “I.D.C.A,” and how did you tackle them?

YTN Tee: “The intro to the project was actually the last song I made on the EP. I was struggling to find the right instrumental for a couple of days, I had a draft but I knew it wasn’t the right one. I randomly found an instrumental prod by Olivia Lattore that I actually had another song to but it was perfect for what I needed and got it done within 20 minutes, not a big one but that’s the only real issue I had to be honest!”

Q10. What do you hope listeners take away or feel when they experience “I.D.C.A (I Don’t Care Anymore)”?

YTN Tee: “I honestly just hope people enjoy it & want to hear more because there’s definitely a lot of releases lined up for 2024 for sure. If everyone that listens to the project has at least one song they can connect with or relate to I’ll be happy.”

With his eclectic blend of sounds and unapologetic approach to music-making, YTN Tee continues to carve his own path in the music scene. “I.D.C.A (I Don’t Care Anymore)” serves as a testament to his artistic evolution and unwavering commitment to authenticity. As we eagerly anticipate his upcoming releases, let us immerse ourselves in the sonic tapestry that is YTN Tee’s captivating world.
