lxttleboyblue‘s Feelin’ Blue is a deeply personal 7-track EP that marks the burgeoning artist’s sonic and emotional journey. Having catapulted into the spotlight after a viral dance performance at UC Davis’ Black Graduation Ceremony—garnering praise from industry titans Snoop Dogg, Spike Lee, and Warren G—as well as over 25 Million views on social media—the project serves as both an intimate confessional and a bold artistic statement.
Crafted over two years, Feelin’ Blue delves into the complexities of newfound fame, wrestling with themes of spirituality, lust, materialism, and the darker shadows of depression and suicidal ideation. Blending Gospel, West Coast Bay Area Hip Hop, R&B, and commercial Pop influences, lxttleboyblue creates a unique soundscape that mirrors the multifaceted nature of their experiences.
The project is executively produced by 17-year-old Ethan Tyler, a talented singer, songwriter, producer, composer, and multi-instrumentalist who has quickly became a close friend and collaborator of lxttleboyblue. Ethan Tyler, serves as the sole featured artist, showcasing his unique blend of songwriting, production, and instrumentation. The two young artists, who met this past summer through a mutual friend, have quickly developed a deep creative bond. Their shared passion for music has led to a truly innovative and groundbreaking project.
One of the standout tracks on the EP is “LMK,” a sultry and soulful ballad reminiscent of D’Angelo‘s “Untitled (How Does It Feel).” The track showcases lxttleboyblue‘s vocal range and emotional depth, while Ethan Tyler’s production adds a layer of complexity and sophistication. Another highlight is “IAMNOTYOURSAVIOR,” a funky and groovy track with a catchy hook and melody. The song is a bold statement of self-worth and independence, while directing the glory and title of savior to a higher power. Additionally the track serves as a double entendre and a play on the word “Savior” (Save Her) and leading listeners to God while encouraging conscientious self worth.
Perhaps the most powerful track on the EP is “Survive.” This Gospel-infused song is a heroic and victorious anthem that speaks to the resilience of the human spirit. It’s a triumphant ending to the project, a song that can resonate with audiences worldwide. The track’s message of hope and perseverance is particularly timely, as many people are struggling with the challenges of the modern world. lxttleboyblue explained that the song was shortly written after a nearly fatal car accident in September 2020, which left the artist with a shattered jaw, cracked cheekbone and an orbital bone fracture. It took several months of recovery and multiple surgeries before Blue got the opportunity to create music again. Both the song and the car accident serves as a testament that lxttleboyblue is in fact a survivor and hopes to inspire others to find a reason to survive.
“Feelin’ Blue” is more than just a collection of songs; it’s a cultural phenomenon. The project has the potential to redefine the meaning of the phrase “feeling blue,” transforming it from a negative connotation to a symbol of relatability and authenticity. lxttleboyblue‘s unique blend of genres and their honest and vulnerable lyrics have the power to inspire and uplift listeners. By pushing the boundaries of music and challenging the status quo, lxttleboyblue is poised to become a leading figure in the world of Hip Hop, R&B, and beyond. Feelin’ Blue is a testament to the power of music to connect, heal, and inspire, promising to leave a lasting impact on both the artist and their audience.
