Harlem’s Kahlil Gordon Captures Major Victory at the USA Boxing International Open

Harlem, New York — Harlem continues to produce champions, and rising amateur boxer Kahlil Gordon is proving that the next generation of greatness is already here.

The Democracy Prep Charter High School senior delivered a powerful performance at the 2026 USA Boxing International Open, held February 7–14 at the Pueblo Convention Center in Pueblo, Colorado. Gordon emerged victorious in the 165-pound division, defeating New Jersey’s Andriy Lishchuk in the championship bout and earning a unanimous decision from all five judges.

The victory marks a defining milestone in Gordon’s already impressive boxing journey. Despite the tournament taking place during his 18th birthday, Gordon chose discipline over celebration, traveling across the country to compete on one of amateur boxing’s biggest stages. That decision paid off with a championship performance and a leap to No. 2 in the national rankings at 165 pounds.

Reflecting on the moment, Gordon shared that the win represented the culmination of years of sacrifice and relentless work in the gym.

“The feeling the moment I won was that all the hard work and sacrifices I made finally paid off,” Gordon said after the fight.

Born to compete and driven by discipline, Gordon trains tirelessly while balancing school and life in Harlem. His journey is guided by strong family support, including his parents Shantasia Johnson and Richard Gordon-Woods, who have helped shape the mindset that fuels his success.

For Harlem, Gordon’s victory represents more than just a boxing win. It is a powerful reminder that focus, sacrifice, and belief can turn opportunity into championship moments. Young athletes across the community now have another hometown role model demonstrating what is possible when dedication meets purpose.

As Gordon’s national profile continues to rise, the boxing world is beginning to take notice. Harlem already knows what the rest of the country is about to discover:

Kahlil Gordon is a champion in the making.
