Tell us about you:
My name is QingRey, I’m from the DMV. When I was young I moved around somewhat between DC, Maryland, and VA. I got my name from 2 different places. One is King Ray, which I am the King of my Life and the choices that I make and Ray because my smile will always brighten a room like a ray of sunshine.
The other is from the Qing Dynasty which was the final imperial dynasty in China, lasting from 1644 to 1912. I grew up on Jackie Chan, Bruce Lee, Ip Man movies, and anime like Dragon Ball Z so it pushed me to learn more about their culture. The Qing Dynasty in my eyes had longevity and that’s how I view the bars that I speak.
They have longevity. I go by Que so I decided to take the K off and put a Q. I love music. I love how different each instrument sounds. It’s like being on 4×1 track team and each instrument is working together to get to the finish line. From creating a beat, to writing lyrics, to getting in the booth and pouring your heart out. It’s all an amazing experience that I adore.
I grew up around it and was shown all types of genres by my parents. I mainly grew up on Nas, DMX, Mary J, Wu-tang, Marvin Gaye, and Sade. Music speaks to me and helps explain a story in the form of rhythm. My favorite song is Luther Vandross Never Too Much. One thing I feel that sets me apart from other artist is my mindset.
It’s like I can envision the story I have to tell and can see it as I’m rapping. I started off as poet and slowly started to do little things like make beats and freestyle over instrumentals. I decided one day why not transform my art into another version of art aka music. I think different from a lot of people and it’s hard to comprehend even for myself sometimes. Another thing I have on other artist is the fact that I’ve worked in different fields of the entertainment industry.
I’ve helped film commercials, music videos, and movies so I have an eye for how I want things to look and present themselves. I’ve experienced a lot of life in different ways in a short amount of time. In 5 years I see myself building a family and continuing to build my legacy with my family for our future generations through different forms of art whether music, film, or whatever someone may consider art.
I believe I can take my poems to rap or singing then transform it into dance and then eventually into an actual piece of art framed in a museum. I plan to impact generations. My ultimate goal is to educate generations how to express themselves and learn different forms of art. See art isn’t just art. It’s a form of emotions and thoughts and creativity. What I believe I bring to the industry is a different and new vibe that people will be able to relate to. Where people can understand the story, message, or portrait I’m conveying.
I want to be remembered for my accomplishments and hard work with the legacy I’m leaving. From D1 track athlete, to Team USA Bobsledder, To National Champion Coach, to Actor, to rapper and whatever else I accomplish by the time its time for me to go. And it’s needless to say I wouldn’t have accomplished any dreams I’ve had since a kid if it was not for God and my family and friends having my back.
