There aren’t many creators who find success as quickly as Harry Chaplin. The England-born producer and engineer hopped across the pond — and then across the whole United States — to relocate to Los Angeles on ten days notice after a life changing call with Jordan “DJ Swivel” Young, who offered him an internship as his personal mix assistant. Since then, Harry’s career has taken off about as fast as the plane he took to get to the states.
He jumped right into the industry and began working alongside DJ Swivel with Grammy-winning artists like Lil Nas X and Dua Lipa as well as Afrobeats sensation Rema, who enlisted DJ Swivel and Harry to help him on his viral track “Calm Down,” which has garnered billions of streams and got a remix from Selena Gomez.
The success of “Calm Down” has propelled Harry into the position to make music his life. It has become the highest charting song by a Nigerian artist in Billboard Hot 100 history and is certified Platinum in the United States, Italy and Spain and Gold in four other countries. Harry’s work as an engineering assistant on Rema’s debut album Rave & Roses has garnered him over 1 billion streams alone.
His touch in Afrobeats reaches even further; he mixed ten of the songs on the Adekunle Gold album Catch Me If You Can in 2022. The album has been streamed over 200 million times worldwide. Other notable African acts Harry has worked with include Fireboy DML and Kwesi Arthur, and he’s also provided his sonic touch on songs by up and coming American singers Fousheé and Lucky Daye.
And it’s not just pop and Afrobeats that Harry Chaplin excels at, but hip-hop too. He was the main mixing engineer on Pooh Shiesty’s single “Guard Up,” from his debut album Shiesty Season, which peaked at No. 3 on the US Billboard 200.
Clearly, Harry Chaplin belongs in the music industry. Since he moved from Suffolk to SoCal, he has hit the ground running and forged unforgettable and lifelong relationships with some of today’s biggest stars. As for his next moves, he’s got a lot up his sleeve, including working with major labels on more Afrobeat records.
He’s also continuing to dive into hip-hop by working with award-winning German duo Cubeatz, who work directly with the industry’s biggest stars including Drake, Future and Cardi B, among others. Many wish to achieve in their lifetime what Harry Chaplin has accomplished in such a short span of time, and only time will tell what other legends he will work with next.
