Exclusive Interview With Trap Papi

Trap Papi is an on the rise recording artist ready to get his major break. Creating is his way to express himself in an artistic form. Thus far he has already accumulated almost 100,000 streams on Spotify and is still racking on streams as we speak. Check out our latest interview with him below.

24 Hip Hop: How did you start your career?

Trap Papi: I started my musical journey on Christmas Day of 2017. I was a freshman in High school wanting to create skits for my YouTube channel. I had the idea of various characters all played by me with one of them being a stereotypical “Soundcloud Rapper” at the time: Trap Papi. I created the name in a satirical sense to bounce off the stereotype of artists getting popular at the time, but after 2 years of on-and-off satirical music, December 2019, exactly 2 years after the release of my debut mixtape “Cracked”, I decided to put out an EP titled “Olive Tree” that deviated from the satire and slowly started revealing what my sound was going to become in the future. Since then I’ve had a lot more of a steady growth with many more stories, but that’s for another time.

24 Hip Hop: Let’s talk about your new release. What’s it called ? What inspired this project?

Trap Papi: My latest release was a collaborative Album with my close childhood friend that goes by the name of “ARYAN.” He started as a producer and still makes instrumentals that blow my mind, but his beats weren’t always up to par with the potential he had been showing. After months of him honing his craft, he started getting to work on his own debut solo album, 100% produced by him. He was recording them in our university’s studio, so I would attend the sessions and help him with the overall process. After a couple weeks, we both decided to transform it into a collaborative album and the decision could not have gone any better. Our collaborative album titled “REDACTED” is out now on all platforms, 100% Mixed, Mastered, and Produced by ARYAN.

24 Hip Hop: How do you describe your sound?

Trap Papi: I would like to consider myself as a very versatile artist. I started off in 2017 being versed in a lot more Boom-Bap sounds, while in 2019 onwards I’ve been more akin to creating music in more of a dark R&B/Trap genre. I’ve made projects with heavy Trap influence, R&B, Alternative Rock, Folk, etc. I like to play around with it because I believe I have the talent to create any type of music. I can sing, I can rap, I can do melodic trap, I can do fast rap, I can do it all, and a lot of that is due to the music I enjoy listening to and taking inspiration from. Artists like The Weekend, 6lack, Frank Ocean, Nav, EDEN, Zayn, Kanye West, and more that I am probably forgetting have made it my mission to be the one to combine these unconventional sounds together to create moving music that will allow u to feel any type of emotion I want you to feel.
