Exclusive Interview: Sweet Limb

Sweet Limb Drops New EP "Vibes"

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Chris Robinson and I rep Austin, Texas. I stay in Round Rock (north of Austin), but i’ve been in the area since 2008. I moved from Pearland (South of Houston). I started doing music here around 2015 and formed a band with a drummer and a keyboard player. It lasted about a year before I was on my own.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

The first release was a manic 48 hours where I couldn’t sleep, so I decided to be productive instead. I wrote and recorded both songs on ‘Fresh’ over those two days. The following release Fly I was going through it and wrote about a friend of mine I lost to suicide. My most recent release was inspired by psychedelics. Specifically, Ketamine, which I was administered IV infusiions with medical professionals for treatment resistent depression. And on my most recent appointment, I met God. The 4 tracks on ‘Vibes’ were also written and recorded over a (non-manic) 48 hour period post TMS treatments.

What is unique about you and your music?

I’d like to think that my style is eclectic and pulls from many genres – my favorite artists are genre bending brilliant people. I’m chasing Frankie Oceans.

What shaped your music?

Life, mental illness, psychs, sprituality, love, loss.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

2015. The circumstances worked out to where I met two talented musicians at the same time that were down with what I was writing.

What type of music do you listen to?

Hip Hop, Jazz, R&B, Folk and Indie Rock. I love Frank Ocean, Steview Wonder, Radiohead, Janet Jackson, Sade, John Coltrane, Odd Future, Prince, A Tribe Called Quest, Miles Davis, D’Angelo to name just a few of my heroes.

What inspires you to write music?

I just like to sit back and observe. Writing good music that is unique is mad hard, but very cathartic and rewarding when the vision is captured. Its much more dope than writing in a diary in my opinion.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

I work in the tech world, but I low key would rather explore other career paths. The thing is, most jobs suck.

Happiness to you is…

Fleeting. I try to practice gratitude and be in the moment so that I can enjoy the good ones while they’re happening. It’s mad hard though. I often think about the future and what it will look like for us. Right now it ain’t looking good.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

There’s hella heartless scammers out there. Vet em. Watch your back.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I just released Vibes on 12/1/22. I’m in the lab cooking up more wavy sonics, but imma take my time with these.

Where do we find you music / music projects?

All streaming platforms: Spotify, Apple Music, Deezer, Bandcamp, Reverbnation, Soundcloud, etc.
