Charmz Drops New Single "Truth Be Bold" ft. Jadakiss

Exclusive Interview: Rising Artist Charmz

What is your name and what city do you rep?

I go by the name of Charmz and im from Jamaica Queens New York. I picked the name when i was about a freshman in high school. It came to me cuz im the third child between my mother and father. Also because my birthday is on the 3rd of january. And also because my flow is special.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release is a track featuring Jadakiss called Truth Be Bold. It Embodies the element of the streets of south side queens. As you know queens is the home of some of the major kingpins and thier is always and element of surprise on every street corner everything looks normal but you always got to be on your toes. Its really about survival of the fittest like mob deep said. I also dropped my first project called “Its Just The Beginning” its a coming of age peace for me. Dropped in august 2021. I put the project together because i wanted to express the frustration i was dealing with so i went in the studio and made a bunch of songs and i couldn’t stop recoding it became more than a hobby it became my outlet without music i would have lost my mind a long time ago. To me music is a form of prayer because you spill your soul through the music.

What is unique about you and your music?

Whats unique about me is that i studied all the grates from new york. And i took a little bit from every artist that had grate success. Each of them had something that made them special. So for me i combined everything i they did grate and i put my own twist on it. Because if you don’t know who came before you, you will be just lost out here in this strange world we live in today.

What shaped your music?

I knew i had a thing for rap cuz coming up in the 90s thats all that was on tv and i was captivataved by the music. The vibe of it was intense. Even if you didnt like that kind of music it really was hard to ignore. The artists that first elevated it to top. It was meant to be everywhere and accessible to every one. The music was defiantly one of a kind, i think thats why everyone gravitated to it.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I start to create when when different pressures of life start to build and overflow. Instead of going to the guy and hitting the bag, i start to get creative and put all that energy into my music. It helps me vent. Its really the best feeling in the world. Its my outlet for everything because this world we live in isn’t fair so instead of adding to the destruction i rather use my pen to add something positive to the universe because we are all created by the same force and we all are just energy and i rather create poetry and just leave something beautiful while im here.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to a lot of 90s music till this day i just love the golden era that was my world. It made me who i am today. So i always try to stick to my roots and then add a splash of something new ontop of it. I also like dance hall music and reggae, afro beats, classical music and i also enjoy reggaetone in the right setting.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
When im not in the studio or writing or recoding music im studying reading books on how to better myself in business. Im always looking towards doing things better that will propel me further in the direction of success. Because every day you’re not getting better, you’re literally getting worse. Things change constantly as time moves forward. So if you think you know everything youre only fooling yourself. As long as you’re getting better everyday thats all that matters and getting sharper and doing things better. Life is a school of knowledge as long as your search you will always find.

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is being on a high vibration doing what ever brings you the most peace in the world. Connecting with your higher self being still and enjoying life from moment to moment. Enjoying doing something that brings you peace. For me its just living in the moment because life is what you make it so we must learn to cherish the time we have while we have life in us.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

One piece of advice i wish i had was don’t rush to make it too fast cause theirs never gonna be the perfect time. You should just love what you’re doing and as long as you’re taking advantage of opportunity that comes your way things will always work out in your favor. Like they say fortune favors the bold. So live everyday like it could be your last. You have to make good memories while you’re here. So never be afraid to be yourself and always be as clear as possible in every situation. That way there’s less place for confusion.
