Exclusive Interview: Omen44

What is your name and what city do you rep?

Omen44 originally from Kobe Japan now residing in Jersey City NJ.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

This track I just dropped with Boot Camp Clik and Dj Munari “The Package”.
I have been living in NY since 911 and have been organizing some underground Hip-Hop events since that’s how I got introduced to the scene, and Smif-N-Wessun(Boot Camp Clik) was one of the artists I hooked up in the early days having them on shows and stuff, we became very close after the Japan tour we did in 2012.

Dj Munari now a big Youtuber that has 86.5K subscribers on his Family channel, I knew him since the mid-2000 but we never really hooked up for a production work or anything, I met him through a Japanese friend and he inspired me to do Youtube blogs(below is the link), through his outlet we thought it was best to introduce my self and the Brooklyn Legend on his channel and to the young Japanese audience.

What is unique about you and your music?

Me and Dj Munari we are Asians, to be precise Japanese, we are super minorities here in the US, and we needed to do something original and cultural to attract the West, my whole concept for my next album was Dj Krush from the ’90s, so you will be hearing more weird stuff.

What shaped your music?

The first Japanese rap I was introduced to in the ’90s was a song called “Long Island Wildin’” by De La Soul they featured a Japanese rap group Scha Dara Parr & Takagi Kan, and ever since I have been experimenting on how to combine that with NY Hip-Hop like Dj Krush and YMO.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

I don’t know if I’m a professional, doing it for the love which is the Supreme Understanding.

What type of music do you listen to?

Jazz, Rock, Electronic, etc…

What inspires you to write music?

My daughter, I need to leave cultural monuments for the next generation.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
