What is your name and where are you from?
My original name is Mary K, I was born in Angola, but due to my Father’s Diplomatic endeavors, I was raised in Nigeria, in Czech Republic, in Cuba, and in Canada.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
I recently released a song called Mr. Criminal which was inspired by both factual and fictional situations.
Mr. Criminal tells a story about a Woman who falls in love with a criminal, and does anything to protect him including lying and risking her life. After getting into many predicaments because of him, she leaves him and starts a new life.
Describe your creative process when you write new music.
I usually create melodies and lyrics first, and leave the rest in the hands of producers.
Luckily, I always find producers who are excellent and meet my expectations.
Are there any artists who inspire you?
Yes, I’m inspired by many artists, both national and international.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
While starting out, I wish I was told that the music industry is not about singing only, and that there are other things that come with it. Throughout the years I have learned that every experience is important, and that moving forward inspite of all, is essential.
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
I am now working on my third album, and due to the fact that I am a polyglot, the album will contain songs in English, Spanish, and Portuguese, and since I’m also fluent in Czech language, I may incorporate a song in Czech as well.
