Exclusive Interview: Jaymellz

What is your name and what city do you rep?

Jaymellz, Aiken, South Carolina

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest release “Stand On It” is about woman who went to see if the grass was greener on the other side, then tried to double back when it failed.

My single “City Lights” was inspired by a trip to Vegas, made me feel like I was supposed to be traveling city to city doing what I love.

What is unique about you and your music?

What makes me unique is my versatility, I sing, rap, write, and produce…so I have complete control over my sound.

What shaped your music?

I come from a musical family, my late aunt encouraged me to “keep singing” and that’s what I did.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

After high school, I got a lot of unexpected love for my talents so that gave me the confidence I needed.

What type of music do you listen to?

I listen to Hip-hop (90’s) R&b, and Jazz. Me being a producer or “beatmaker” helps me use elements from different genres.

What inspires you to write music?

I write about life; my personal experiences, and my aspirations as an artist.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

Outside of music I love fashion and acting, those are two things I would also like to explore.

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is being free to do what I want, how I want and take care of my people.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish someone would’ve told me to learn the business first, that would’ve saved a lot of time and energy.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

I have some dope things happening in 2023, along with some new sounds…I’ve been experimenting.

Where do we find you music / music projects?
