What is your name, and what city do you represent?
“I go by Yung Lord Fine$$ but feel free to call me Fine$$. I’m an up-and-coming artist out of Albany, New York.”
What is unique about you and your music?
“Something that sets me apart from other artists is the versatility of my music. I can go from rapping to making an opera-like song. Y’all get ready for this debut album!”
What shaped your music?
“My music is influenced by how I feel at a particular point. I am also very particular in the beats that I select. One could say that an artist’s music sounds the same, but this isn’t the case for me because of my versatility.”
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
“Ever since high school, I have had a passion for writing music but never knew how to record and release it. I have a Google Drive folder of written lyrics from 2019 that I will probably never record. It was only in January 2021 that I decided to release a song to express my feelings about a heartbreak that occurred not too recently from that time. The rest is history.”
Tell us about your latest releases; what inspired you to create them?
“I currently have two released songs, “Lost” and “DANCE FLOOR,” out on all streaming platforms, as all of the songs when I first started making music are kept on SoundCloud to keep a history of memories and proof of improvement over the past months. “Lost” was written based on how I felt then (Summer 2021) and served as a farewell to the heartbreak of a past relationship. “DANCE FLOOR” was inspired by a life event and was written three days after the event occurred when I heard a beat that caught my attention. Lady Fine$$ and I were driving past a club when she brought up the idea of going to it later that evening, which we did. It wasn’t my idea, I swear! The song was later dropped on the same day of a homecoming event (November 12th, 2021) at my school in an attempt to get the song played as people were having a great time on an actual dance floor. It’s crazy how real-life events can inspire one’s music.”
What type of music do you listen to?
“I mainly listen to modern-day rap but am starting to get back into music from previous decades. Some of my inspirations are Juice WRLD, Polo G, Lil Tjay, and the rock band Journey, to name a few.”
What inspires you to write music?
“There are a lot of things that inspire my music, which are mainly real-life events. My goal is to allow people to persevere through tough times they are going through by listening to my music, in which if I can touch the heart and soul and make a difference in at least one person’s life, I will feel accomplished.”
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) that you are passionate about?
“I am currently studying biology, so when I am not making music, I am busy with my studies.”
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting?
“I wish I was told that not everyone is your friend in the music business. Jealousy can change the people whom you think you can trust. Just be careful with what you tell people, and always stay on your toes.”
Tell us about your upcoming projects…
“I am proud to announce that I plan to drop my debut album this summer, which has been in the works for over a year. It will consist of a ten-song tracklist, with the first half being of the heartbreak theme and the second half being of the love theme. Each song is placed in a certain spot on the album for a reason, as it tells the story of my life over the past year.”
