Exclusive Interview: Dan Molloy

What is your name and what city do you rep?

My name is Dan Molloy and I rep Brooklyn, New York. Crooklyn Heightz to be specific.

Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?

My latest releases can be found on the major DSPs and love/lost inspired me to create them. Lots of pain and passion within every bar.

What is unique about you and your music?

I’m unique because of my undergraduate experience and philosophical outlook on life. A genius can play the role of a fool, however a fool cannot play the role of a genius.

What shaped your music?

Getting expelled from the ivy league and landing in the # 1 party school in the USA shaped my music. Someday there will be a movie/biopic/documentary of my existence.

When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?

Realized music was going to be a profession for me when I started attending my classes less and started attending the studio way more. Shit to this day STILL have a home studio setup wherever I rest my head. I eat, sleep, and breathe music.

What type of music do you listen to?

My musical tastes are eclectic because music is a universal language. I’ll literally listen to ANYTHING because meaning can be found in every piece.

What inspires you to write music?

Life inspires me to write music as cliche as that may sound. The slightest occurrences and/or random conversations can make their way into my lyrics. Inspiration is commonplace for a true artist. Personally, I can create “a jingle” on ANY topic imaginable. Difficult takes a day and impossible takes a week so let me know the assignment.

What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?

When I don’t do music I skateboard. Actually completed over 1000 deliveries between apps like DoorDash and UberEats on a skateboard. Skateboarding,an unlimited metrocard, and hustler’s ambition has become my gym membership over the years. What I love about skateboarding the most is the resilience it evokes because when life knocks us down WE MUST RISE!!!!

Happiness to you is…

Happiness to me is a loving family life because it starts in the home. Teamwork makes the dreamwork. A solid unit is an essential part of greatness.

What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?

I wish somebody told me that success varies on a case by case scenario. Some folk you start with elevate way past you and vice versa. There are many factors beyond our own control as individuals that determine one’s success rate or lack thereof. Never know what someone is dealing with behind the scenes because we only see what is presented to us.

Tell us about your upcoming projects…

Stay tuned for my next release(s) coming sooner than you think. ALWAYS WORKING. Till then find me on YouTube, Soundcloud, and wherever the hell else ya listen to music!
