In this exclusive interview, we catch up with Big Mooky, one of the most exciting rising voices in underground hip-hop, known for his cinematic visuals, raw energy, and genre-bending sound. Following the release of two brand-new visuals and his upcoming single “More in Store,” Big Mooky opens up about his creative process, evolution as an artist, and what fans can expect next.

Q. Big Mooky, you just released two brand-new visuals — what stories or messages were you aiming to bring to life with them?

The two visuals I dropped couldn’t be more different. The visual for my song “Wax Wings: Icarus” has more of a documentary style, following me on my first tour and rocking out at a couple different shows. The visual for “Heart in the Bag” is a cosmic, psychedelic emo-western with my homie Lago Link.

Q. With your single dropping tomorrow, what makes this track stand out as a defining moment in your catalog? Can you walk us through the creative process behind it?

This new single “More in Store” marks my first released collaboration with artist/producer/engineer Ace Kaze, who’s probably one of my favorite underground artists. His vocals aren’t featured on this track but he made the beat top to bottom and engineered me to sound crispy as hell. I don’t typically make songs in this lane or with much auto-tune in general so it felt good to get out of my typical comfort zone both sonically and lyrically.

This song happened really fast. From the moment Ace Kaze showed me the beat to when we had a rough mix, it probably all happened over the course of 90 minutes. I enjoyed playing with new cadences and finding new pockets.

Q. Visuals are a huge part of your artistry. How do you approach translating your music into a cinematic experience for fans?

Despite what you hear, I actually have a filmmaking background. Storytelling in all aspects is very important to me. Although the visual for “Wax Wings: Icarus” has no discernable narrative, the song’s lyrics discuss chasing one’s dreams despite the struggles and risks — and the visuals depict me doing exactly that.

Oftentimes I get inspired when someone gets struck visually by my music and has an idea for what the visual is — that’s how the video for “Heart in the Bag” came to be. The song is about getting your heart taken and love being a battle, so Lago Link came up with a simple story with a western feel. The final product leans more atmospheric, but that’s part of what makes it beautiful. My music always drives my aesthetic, and I feel like the two work cohesively.

Q. How would you describe the evolution of your sound since you started making music, and where do you see it going next?

When I first started rapping, I don’t think I knew what my “natural” rapping voice was and I was often trying too hard to sound like someone I’m not. With every project and every new song, I feel like I’m carving out my lane and what feels right to me in terms of what I perceive “Big Mooky” to sound like in my head. I can’t wait to see where my sound goes, but I know that I want each song to correspond with an insane live show experience.

Q. What do you hope listeners feel or take away after hearing this new release?

It’s been over a year, but I’m back at it — and I don’t plan on going away or stopping any time soon.

Q. Who are some of your biggest musical influences, and how have they shaped the way you create?

When I first started making beats before I even thought about rapping, I was heavily influenced by Lil Wayne, Mac Miller, and, admittedly, Drake. As time has passed and my artistry evolved, I find myself influenced by Wifisfuneral, Griselda, Trippie Redd, and SSGKobe. I can definitely hear all the influences in my music, and I feel like it’s important to constantly look for inspiration to stay motivated.

Q. Dropping music consistently takes focus and drive — what keeps you motivated to keep pushing forward?

It’s been super hard for me to stay consistent, and to be honest, I heavily failed to do so for much of the year. My mental health has been at an all-time low until very recently, which is why I’ve started putting out content consistently again. Social media often leaves me feeling like my motivation and inspiration are being sucked out of me, so I try to surround myself with people who are being positive and creating offline and in person.

Q. Beyond the music, what should supporters know about Big Mooky as a person and as an artist?

At the end of the day, whether you know me as a person or as an artist, whether you like my music or not, my message always has been and always will be peace and love. Love is the legacy I want to leave.

Q. After this release, what can your fans expect from you in the near future?

In the final months of 2025, I’m dropping 2 solo singles, 2 collab singles, and at least one more visual. Much more high-profile collaborations are on the way for 2026!

Big Mooky continues to solidify his place as an artist with purpose, depth, and vision. His ability to blend emotion, storytelling, and performance makes every release a genuine experience. With “More in Store” and a wave of new material on the horizon, Big Mooky’s next chapter looks brighter — and bolder — than ever.
