What is your name and what city do you rep?
Everyone in my area knows me as AJ Reynolds and I come from 45 mins above boston, 45 mins below portland, Maine in the seacoast of NH. There really isn’t a specific city to represent in NH as it’s all just a bunch of small towns and small cities but all in all… I come from Southern/seacoast NH.
Tell us about your latest releases, what inspired you to create them?
As of Friday, Aug 19th of 2022 I released an album for the first time in like 6-8 years called “Out The Box”. I created this album through a growing period of my life that I will truly never forget. The ups and downs of this album are relatable to the hardships in life all the way to the best times of life and things that are more important.
What is unique about you and your music?
Nowadays when it comes to unique music and artists that are not a clone of the last… its rare. Everything is repetitive and simple and I got sick of this when I started going through that growing stage of life that I spoke about before. I write music for you, me and the next, I write relatable music from the average joe on commercial beats. I like to take my style and mix it with everyone’s favorite style and create my own wave. I like to be super diverse and going “Out Of The Box” with it is exactly what it sounds like.
What shaped your music?
Music has always been a go to thing for me to focus on instead of the real world. My entire life I knew that I wanted to be a rapper and as I got older It was less about being successful and more of a coping mechanism as we go through life. Never did I think anyone would care…. It went the opposite way. A Lot of people like relatable and that’s what I come from. Relatable struggles and “Go getter” do it yourself backgrounds. The struggle and everything I have been through as a kid and young adult have shaped me to be the man and artists that I am today.
When did you realize you were going to make music professionally?
Since I was a kid about 8 years old I knew that I was going to be something in this world. I have always stuck to music as a dream, passion and something I will never let go of. I have tried quitting numerous times but it all came back to bigger and better things. And one thing leads to another… and here we are back in 2018 when I went on TV to perform my song Cheeks… It went OFF and after talking to and connecting with so many people within the industry after that… I knew i was ready to jump.
What type of music do you listen to?
I listen to EVERYTHING. It really depends on the day. Sometimes I might wanna listen to Lil baby… next day I might wanna listen to juice wlrd…. Next day Im playing King Los and dissecting the MADNESS! It really depends on what my brain is feeling at the moment.
What inspires you to write music?
Music has always been a go to thing and I will always write music out of pure passion and desire to write music. Yes I will get inspired after a big show or go to the club and come home and write a record and what not… But its the pure passion to want to make music in the first place and to become something that actually puts me in the drivers seat. Ill forever be one of my main inspirations because I was one of the only people I had during the darkest times of my life.
What do you do when you don’t do music (creative or otherwise) and that you are passionate about?
I like to climb mountains and be outdoors when I’m not making music. Being stuck down in the cave is where my passion and heart is but the other side of my heart remains outdoors and in the woods. Or to just be outdoors in general.
Happiness to you is…
Don’t even get me started with this question… Happiness is not money (Except the comfort that comes with it), cars, jewelry, clothes or a pretty girl with no personality. Happiness is within and you can control that shit. You are in the drivers seat wether you want to be or not so everything you do effects the way you live. Happiness is self inflicted. if you’re not happy then you need to find things that make you happy or you need to surround yourself with the little things that make you happy because if you trust social media quotes and apps that people constantly compare themselves with… you wont be happy.
What do you wish you were told when you first started making music that you think would help artists just starting out?
#1.10% talent. 90% business. and #2..Stop wasting your time and money and just make the music and put it out. No more roll outs or over thinking whether it should be out or not. Put it out.
