DISTRXCT Behind The Mask – The Exclusive Interview

DISTRXCT Behind The Mask – The Exclusive Interview

Probably the biggest question people have – who is the mysterious “Masked Sinatra” and why does he stay mysterious?

First things first, thanks for inviting me, and happy 2023! Well, I don’t like to talk about myself at all since I’m trying to keep my private life the way it is, but I would describe DISTRXCT as a 24 years old, Bulgarian-based man who enjoys making music. My intentions weren’t to be mysterious or anything like that. I just never wanted attention, but to have fun with my stuff and be able to appreciate my freedom. Plus, I like balaclavas, ha-ha.

Why did you choose to transfer from a Hip-Hop artist to an EDM producer?

Long story short, I was doing Hip-Hop for about 10 years and it came to the point I wasn’t even having fun anymore. Plus, a lot of nasty things happened around the time I was building a Hip-Hop career and it may have changed me into what I am today. My real passion for EDM came a little over a year ago when I was sick, quarantined, and bored at home. I just wanted to create something. It’s crazy how far we’ve come since then. I’m blessed and grateful.

Which one is the song that made you say, “Damn, I made it!” and what’s the story behind it?

Loving the question! This is definitely my take on “Do It To It” which story is actually wild. I literally made it in about 2 hours and never planned to release it. A homie of mine kept pushing me to drop it and I actually did it with no plan, no schedule, and no hype behind it. It was the very next day when I woke up and I saw the numbers on Spotify going crazy. It helped me get a distribution deal with The Orchard and later on, a deal with Universal Music Group. I’m really grateful for all the opportunities this single gave me.

Tell us about your most recent piece – “Made You Look – Remix”. What’s next?

“Made You Look” wasn’t something I expected to create. It came up naturally after I heard the original sound. The track gave me a fresh, Christmas vibe for an unknown reason and we decided to release it in December. I’m excited to see how it goes. What’s next? DISTRXCT works by moods and feelings, so I can never tell. The true thing is that I’m about to work harder this year and release more music, because that’s the main point of being a musician, right? Enjoy and trust the process.
