Adam Smith, better known as Demetri, is a talented independent artist from Michigan. Demetri comes from a musical family on both his mother’s and father’s sides, which helped him fall in love with music. He started making music as a young boy in the choir at church but didn’t take it seriously until after he could no longer pursue his football career.
Demetri started recording himself back in college in 2019 and hasn’t stopped since. His mentors, Nathaniel Edwards, Uncle Stephen, and Uncle Matthew, helped Demetri get involved in music when he was young. His Uncle Matthew was a choir director, and Uncle Stephen was his vocal coach as a child. He attributes all of his musical talents to these three individuals who initially believed in him.
Demetri has not had an easy path as he has had to overcome homelessness and poverty. Since he is the eldest of 10, he had to grow up fast and help raise his siblings while also trying to chase his dreams. Though these struggles seemed impossible at the time, he has now learned to appreciate all he has gone through and portrays that in his music.
When listening to Demetri, fans can hear an artist relatable to everyday life situations and obstacles. He wants his fans to know he sees them and their struggles and understands them on a deeper level. Demetri currently has a producer that helps him portray this message and worked with him on his upcoming single “Ride.” This song deals with the ups and downs of one’s relationship and explores the journey of finding out if your significant other will ride with you through thick and thin.
