David Nwaba Signs 2-Year Deal with the Brooklyn Nets

The new-look Brooklyn Nets have reportedly signed forward David Nwaba to a 2-yer contract according to Shams Charania of The Athletic. Nwaba spent last season with the woeful Cleveland Cavaliers.

This will be the fourth team in four seasons for the 26-year-old Nwaba, who appeared in 51 games last year with Cleveland. He averaged 6.5 points and 3.5 rebounds per game in 19.3 minutes, but really made his impact felt defensively. Pay no mind to the 116 defensive rating, the Cavaliers defense was atrocious regardless. Shockingly enough, the Cavs defense was substantially better with Nwaba on the floor. Which really says something.

As a backup wing on a probable playoff team in Brooklyn, Nwaba will get plenty of minutes. Especially with newly-acquired Kevin Durant likely on the shelf for the entire season as he recovers from an achilles injury.

David Nwaba has spent time with the Los Angeles Lakers and Chicago Bulls prior to his stop with the Cavaliers. For his career, Nwaba is a 49% shooter and 32.6% from 3-point land. Between admirable shooting numbers and solid on-ball defense, Brooklyn may have secured an underrated bench piece for this season and next.
