California has long been a hotbed for musical innovation, and Marquis Ross, known in the industry as EqMuzik, is no exception. Growing up with a wide range of musical influences, EqMuzik was exposed to everything from the vibrant rhythms of Cumbias to the soulful tunes of old-school hits, as well as the raw energy of California’s iconic hip-hop scene. But what really lit the fire in him was his older cousin, who introduced him to rock music and taught him simple tunes on a toy keyboard. This modest start was the spark that fueled his passion and ambition for a career in music.
EqMuzik’s journey hasn’t been just about talent—it’s been about perseverance and a constant hunger for growth. While many might have settled for staying within their local scene, he knew his unique sound needed a bigger platform. His big break came in 2022 when Mojoheadz Recordz recognized his talent and distributed one of his instrumentals. This milestone opened the door to further opportunities. By posting his beats on platforms like RepostExchange, he quickly rose in the ranks, hitting #2 on the charts with his track “Love Yourself,” which showcased his ability to blend electronic, blues, R&B, pop, and hip-hop seamlessly. This fusion caught the attention of listeners worldwide, racking up over 100,000 streams on SoundCloud by 2023.
The year 2024 marked a pivotal moment in EqMuzik’s career. His collaboration with renowned producer Zaytoven through the Muzic Money Program sharpened his business skills, helping him generate substantial revenue from his beats. He earned $1,000 in his first month alone. His talent didn’t go unnoticed by industry giants like FigurezMadeIt and artists such as El Demonio, whose #1 hit on iTunes’ Blues chart solidified his standing. Soon, EqMuzik’s productions were featured on major projects with El Demonio, including collaborations with Grammy-winning artists like SZA, Jack Harlow, and Chris Brown.
What truly sets EqMuzik apart is his ability to transcend genres. His versatility has earned him the label of “Super Producer” within the music industry. Each track he creates carries a unique depth and complexity, offering listeners something new with each listen. His blend of genres keeps his sound fresh, ensuring that his music stands out in a crowded market.
Look out for his upcoming collaborations, including the highly anticipated El Demonio track “Something I Can Drown In” featuring Jack Harlow, set to drop in early 2025.
